There are about 40 different types of epilepsy. Most seizures are absence seizures (staring into space for a short periods), and some involve fainting and slight tremors, but only a small percentage of seizures are the full-blown tonic-clonic ("grand mal") seizures that are depicted, often incorrectly, in movies and on television. Since most people believe that everyone with epilepsy has these tonic-clonic seizures, those with epilepsy will often avoid telling others about their condition. Dr. David Raffle has over three decades of experience working with people with epilepsy, and can provide advice on managing friendships and relationships. Call Dr. David Raffle at Raffle Brain Institute in Carmel, Indiana, at (800) 450-9799 for an appointment.

Here's an important blog on traumatic brain injury (TBI) from spousal abuse. Often a woman's (or man's) symptoms of personality changes, social isolation, and hightened emotions are assumed to be only Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but they're rarely asked about concussions or head trauma. Awareness of this by everyone involved in care and support will benefit many victims of physical abuse.

An important article appeared on October 12, 2015, in the Los Angeles Times about Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in women who have suffered repeated abuse from domestic violence (http://goo.gl/Bwz1Xa).
