💙 National Social Workers Month Spotlight: Lauren 💙

This month, we’re proud to recognize Lauren, our incredible Medical Social Worker and Volunteer Coordinator at Amari.

Lauren’s role goes far beyond traditional social work. She supports patients and families through some of life’s most difficult moments by offering emotional guidance, helping navigate complex decisions, and ensuring every patient’s voice is heard and respected.

But her impact doesn’t stop there.

From launching a community garden to grow flowers for hospice patients, to organizing memorial events for families, to building our volunteer program and internship opportunities, Lauren is constantly finding meaningful ways to bring comfort, connection, and community into hospice care.

Her work is a reminder that hospice is not just about care—it’s about community, dignity, and human connection.

We are so grateful for the compassion, innovation, and heart Lauren brings to our team every day. 🤍

🤍 Our Bereavement Coordinator, Owen, recently had the privilege of leading a grief debriefing with the longtime care staff at the Sisters of Mercy in Auburn.

It was a meaningful opportunity to support the caregivers who have devoted their lives to serving others. These retired Sisters are pillars of education and healthcare throughout the Roman Catholic community across Northern California, and we are honored to now walk alongside them through our services. 🤍

Many families feel overwhelmed when they first hear the word hospice. Questions about what hospice really means, what Care looks like, and what choices patients still have are very common.

In this video, a Patient Care Coordinator at Amari explains what happens behind the scenes when someone begins hospice care. She shares how families are supported during the admissions process, how the team works together, and why hospice is focused on comfort, choice, and quality of life.

hospice does not take away control. Patients and families remain in charge of their care decisions while receiving support from a compassionate team of nurses, AIDS, social workers, and spiritual care providers.

Volunteers are the heart of hospice care.

Even though it’s technically not volunteer month, we’re resharing this video from Lauren, our volunteer, as a reminder that not only do we always appreciate our volunteers, but also we’re always looking for compassionate volunteers to join our team.

At Amari, our volunteers bring comfort, companionship, and peace to patients and families during some of life‘s most meaningful moments. Our volunteers sit with patients, listen to stories, read aloud, or simply offer a caring presence. Volunteers make a lasting difference. Volunteers can support patients in their homes, assisted living communities, or skilled nursing facilities, helping ease the day-to-day journey for both patients and their loved ones.

You don’t need medical experience, just compassion and a willingness to listen. Training and support are provided and even a few hours a month could have a meaningful impact.
