Minimal daylight has an impact on our bodies, which you may have been feeling for weeks already!

Less daylight means your body makes less serotonin. Less serotonin means increased fatigue, a disturbed circadian rhythm, and resulting mood challenges.

Less sunlight and staying inside where it is warm during these cold and dark months also makes us deficient in many essential vitamins like Vitamin D , Vitamin C, and Vitamin A as well as Iron , Omega-3 Fatty Acids , Zinc , Folate , and Magnesium.

This winter solstice, consider marking the day by practicing well-being and recognition that the light will slowly start to return! Here are some ideas:

Light candles

Take a winter walk or hike

Start your bedtime routine early and add a few extras in like a hot shower with an herbal shower spray or some magnesium sleep butter that we have in the shop!

Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar from Little Gypsy Farms!

This amazing olive oil and vinegar come from a farm nestled between mountains in the southern Peloponnese of Greece. Their land has been family-owned and cultivated for generations. Their old-growth, heirloom variety Koroneiki olive groves boast higher polyphenol content and 5x the antioxidant level compared to grocery store brands. Their olives are hand picked and pressed at a local mill. Their products are certified organic, small batch, preservative free, and cold-pressed. We know that this time of year is not always full of joy. Many of us struggle with grief, loss, and depression. Those struggles can feel even heavier when the rest of the world is celebrating. There is no easy fix for what you are going through but here are a few things to remember:
1. Be gentle with yourself and give yourself time and space in this busy season to feel your feelings. It’s ok to not feel cheery.
2. Get outside everyday, even if its cold and raining!
3. Take extra care to give your body what it needs-nutrient-dense and gut-healthy foods, exercise, sleep, and purposeful rest.
4. Focus on in-person relationships and spend less time on screens!
5. Consider the transcendent things in this life that bring lasting hope-give thanks for these things!
We are here to help recommend whole food supplements and provide moments of self-care. These can be an extra support during an acutely challenging time or with chronic depression or anxiety. Hugs!
