Headaches are one of the most common neurological complaints in the world.

In fact, nearly 50% of adults worldwide experience a headache disorder each year, and tension-type headaches are the most common form.

Tension headaches are often described as:
• Pressure around the head
• Tightness at the base of the skull
• Aching behind the eyes
• Neck and shoulder tension

Notice something?

The neck is almost always involved.

Research shows that dysfunction in the cervical spine (neck joints) can contribute to tension-type headaches due to muscular tightness and irritation of surrounding nerves.

A systematic review published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal manipulation can be an effective treatment option for certain types of headaches, including tension-type headaches.
