Starting a fitness routine doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, beginners often see the best results by keeping things simple.

A new 2026 study published in JAMA Network Open found that older adults with greater muscle strength had significantly lower risk of early death.

Even more interesting:
The benefits remained even when researchers accounted for other health risks and activity levels.
