At the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, we enter the stillness of Water—the element of deep yin, restoration, and the wisdom that arises from silence. It is a threshold moment: the turning of the dark toward the light, the pause between what has been and what is yet to come.

In this QiGong and Yoga Dance fusion, we’ll honor the season’s invitation to slow down and root into the body’s hidden reservoirs of vitality. Through gentle QiGong forms, we’ll awaken the kidneys—the storehouse of jing, our ancestral essence—and feel the downward, grounding current of winter energy. Spacious time will be given to sense the breath as a bridge: gathering nourishment on the inhale, releasing what is complete on the exhale, and resting in the quiet potency in between.

Then, carried by music and the liberating spirit of Yoga Dance, we’ll allow movement to rise from the depths—preverbal, intuitive, expressive. Stillness and motion will weave together like water and light, creating a living meditation that replenishes and renews.

Together we’ll gather in community to honor the turning of the season, replenish our inner waters, and kindle the quiet flame of light that guides us forward.

Your guide is Jennifer Lucero-Earle, a trauma-informed registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator who has been teaching dance as healing classes for over 20 years. She is looking forward to dancing with you!

Touch can be an important way to offer support and relaxation, communicate compassion and acceptance, and help your students find their full potential in a pose.

In this weekend workshop with Alexandra DeSiato, we will:

+ discuss why assists are offered
+ explore the most common shapes to assist
+ practice the hands-on assists you learn
+ look at the concerns around assists, including consent and students misunderstanding the purpose of hands-on yoga

You'll leave the weekend ready to offer safe hands-on assists, confident in the value they add to your yoga teaching, and ready to level up your classes.

We meet Saturday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1–4 p.m., and again Sunday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. (There is no Sunday afternoon session, freeing you to travel.)

This workshop, which is part of our 300/500-hour advanced studies yoga teacher training, is also open to teachers from any movement modality.

Maybe you’ve been telling yourself, “I’d love to do yoga teacher training someday—when I’m calmer, fitter, more focused, more . . . ready.”

We hear this all the time.

You want to feel like the kind of person who does yoga teacher training. But right now, you’re juggling a full life—work, caregiving, relationships, commitments—and trying to deepen your practice in the pockets of space you can find.

This isn’t about waiting for a perfect version of yourself to appear. It’s about beginning where you are—with support, structure, and community.

Here’s the truth: You already belong here. You’re ready. And we built this program with exactly that in mind—a bridge between your real life and your growth as a teacher. You deserve a training that honors both.

Join us on December 16 for a free information session to learn more about our next Yoga Teacher Training that starts in January 2026!

Looking for a fun, mindful, and meaningful way to spend time together as a family? Join Alexis Besosa, E-RYT 200 and Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher, for a 60-minute bilingual Family Yoga workshop designed especially for families with young children.

This class invites children and their grown-ups to move, breathe, and connect through playful yoga sequences that nurture the body and spark the imagination. Through a blend of music, storytelling, age-appropriate props, and creative movement, yoga comes to life in a way that’s fun, engaging, and developmentally supportive. Kids will build coordination, confidence, and language skills, while grown-ups enjoy quality time and shared laughter on the mat.

Classes are bilingual (English & Spanish) and designed with children ages approximately 4–9 years in mind, but older and younger siblings are welcome if the pace feels appropriate.

This is a great opportunity for families to:
-Explore yoga together in a relaxed, welcoming environment
-Introduce mindfulness practices in an age-appropriate way
-Strengthen physical awareness, emotional regulation, and connection
-Just have fun moving and breathing as a team!

Grief: When the Heart Feels Cold

Grief doesn’t always show up as tears. Sometimes it feels like cold—a kind of numbness or distance from your own life. This Reflections workshop weaves gentle yoga, restorative rest, breathwork, journaling, and the Danish idea of hygge—cozy, intentional comfort—to create a soft place for grief to rest.

📅 Sunday, December 7, 2025 · 1–2:30 p.m.

An Evening of Gentle Movement, Sound Healing, Intuitive Reflection & Soulful Sisterhood
Facilitated by Alexis Besosa, E-RYT-200 & Crystal Bright, Musician & Sound Healer

Step into a sacred space created just for women — a nurturing circle where you can soften, release, and reconnect with your inner wisdom and the healing power of community.

Over the course of two hours, we’ll move through a thoughtfully crafted journey together:
-Opening & Centering – Arrive fully, ground into the space, and set intentions.
-Vocal Toning & Mantra — simple, guided sounds that free the voice, move energy, (like humming Om or Solfeggio frequencies) to clear energy and deepen your connection to breath and body.
-Gentle & Restorative Yoga with Live Music led by Alexis — grounding movement and supported stillness to reset the nervous system and open the body accompanied by Crystal Bright’s soothing live soundscapes.
-Live Sound Healing with musician Crystal Bright — bathe in healing vibrations while resting fully, with music using a combination of instruments, such as a frame drum, kalimba, crystal singing bowls, piano, accordion, and more.
-Intuitive Journaling or Creative Reflection — access your quiet inner voice through intuitive writing, creative exploration, or simply pausing with presence.
-Closing Circle — a chance to gather together and close with intention, in safe space of witnessing and sharing, where each woman is honored without judgment or advice. Sharing is welcome but never required—come just as you are.

Each circle is inspired by a chakra theme (from Root to Crown) — grounding, creativity, empowerment, compassion, truth, intuition, transcendence, and integration — creating a complete journey of balance and renewal.

Carolina Yoga Company is a group of sister studios ready to help you connect with yoga. The Carolina Yoga Company includes Carrboro Yoga, Durham Yoga, and Hillsborough Yoga. We serve the communities of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, and all of central North Carolina by creating a space for connection. Our classes meet you where you are, at any age and in any state of being. Join us to connect with the right yoga to help you find balance.

You’ll often find our owners, Sage Rountree and Lies Sapp, enjoying our broad range of class offerings. Together, Sage and Lies direct the Carolina Yoga Teacher Training program. Their commitment to well-being through balance extends to their other businesses, the Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat and the Carolina Massage Institute.

We are both proud and humble to create a space for connection, community, and balance. Thank you for recognizing our hard work with numerous awards, including Best of the Triangle in the Independent Weekly poll for both Carrboro Yoga and Durham Yoga for five straight years.
