**Newsflash** It's ok to hold your baby!

A lot of new parents worry that they have to try to put their babies down to check if they have fed enough. If a baby is settled in the parent's arms/on their chest then it's likely that they are ok! They will soon tell you if they are not. Along with lots of wet and dirty nappies this is a good sign that all is well.

And there is also likely to be a lot less crying and unsettled behaviour. Babies do not like to be put down. They wake up, find themselves on their own and cry because they want to be safe again. The babies that cried when they were on their own earlier in our evolution, were those that survived. Our babies have not changed much since then.

Through the eyes of a baby, they are at risk if they find themselves on their own.
