🩺 CT vs. Ultrasound — The More You Know 💡

In the Emergency Department, imaging plays a critical role in achieving accurate and timely diagnoses

🖥️ CT Scan — Available 24/7
▪️ Fast, detailed imaging
▪️ Essential for trauma, head injuries, stroke evaluation, internal bleeding, and complex abdominal pain
▪️ Always available when seconds matter

🔍 Ultrasound — Available Monday–Friday
▪️ No radiation
▪️ Excellent for gallbladder issues, pregnancy-related concerns, cardiac views, and blood flow

Both imaging tools play an important, yet different role in emergency care.

🚨🏥 We are CCMH Wednesday! 🏥🚨

Meet Jessica, one of our dedicated Emergency Room nurses whose journey in healthcare speaks volumes about commitment and growth.

Beginning as a CNA in 2008, she built her career from the ground up with hands-on patient care and compassion at the bedside. She advanced to Practical Nurse in 2011, continuing to expand her clinical knowledge and skill set. In 2019, she earned her RN and has continued to strengthen her impact in patient care ever since. 🩺🫀

Her experience spans burn unit care, home health for both pediatric and adult patients, and medical-surgical nursing — giving her a well-rounded, adaptable foundation that serves our ER patients well every single shift. 🌟

From critical situations to comforting families, she brings experience, steadiness, and heart to our department. We are grateful for her dedication to our team and to the community we serve. 💙🚑

Fun fact! Jessica was recently named a Service Excellence Advisor to a new program we will launch soon, facility wide, to transform
the patient and employee experience through inspiration, innovation, and
connection. 📣❣️

🚑 CPR Awareness: You Could Be the Reason Someone Lives

Every minute matters during a cardiac emergency. When a person collapses and stops breathing, immediate CPR can double or even triple their chance of survival.

💡 What you can do:
✔️ Call emergency services immediately
✔️ Start chest compressions (push hard and fast in the center of the chest)
✔️ Use an AED if one is available — it will guide you step by step

❤️ CPR is not just a skill. It’s a community responsibility.
When more people are trained, more lives are saved.

📢 Consider taking a CPR class this year. Encourage your workplace, church, or school to host one.
You never know whose life you might save.

Goal: build a team so strong no one can point out the leader

Emergency nursing: Unpredictable & Complex ⚡ Every shift brings new challenges that require quick thinking, clinical expertise, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

That’s why a strong team is essential 🤝 When nurses, providers, and support staff communicate, trust one another, and work seamlessly together, lives are changed — and often saved ❤️‍🩹

In emergency care, teamwork isn’t just important… it’s everything 💙

Thank you, Indiana 7 med crew, for assisting in patient simulations!

🚑 Understanding Emergency Department Triage: Why Some Patients Are Seen First 🚑

Emergency Departments do not always see patients in order of arrival. Instead, patients are prioritized based on medical need to ensure those with life-threatening conditions receive immediate attention.

Here are general examples of triage levels:

🔴 Level 1 – Immediate (Life-Threatening)
Seen right away. Examples may include cardiac arrest, severe trauma, stroke symptoms, or difficulty breathing.

🟠 Level 2 – Emergent (High Risk)
Very urgent conditions that could worsen quickly, such as chest pain, severe allergic reactions, altered mental status, or significant injuries.

🟡 Level 3 – Urgent
Patients who need evaluation and treatment but are currently stable. Examples include moderate abdominal pain, fractures, dehydration, or high fever.

🟢 Level 4 – Less Urgent
Minor injuries or illnesses that still need medical care, such as minor cuts, mild infections, or sprains.

🔵 Level 5 – Non-Urgent
Conditions that are stable and may be safely treated after more urgent patients, such as minor symptoms.

Thank you for your patience and for trusting us with your care — we are here for you when emergencies happen.

❄️ Hypothermia Is More Than Just Being Cold — It’s a Medical Emergency. ❄️

When core body temperature drops, the body slows down. Mental status changes, dangerous heart rhythms, and organ failure can follow quickly. Early recognition and rapid treatment save lives.

In our Critical Access Emergency Department, we are prepared to act fast.

🔥 Removing wet clothing and protecting from further heat loss
🔥 Active rewarming using the Bair Hugger® warming system
🔥 Warmed IV fluids delivered through the Hotline® fluid warmer to safely raise core temperature
🔥 Continuous cardiac monitoring and careful handling — because hypothermic patients are at high risk for lethal arrhythmias

Even in a rural setting, advanced warming techniques and skilled emergency care make a critical difference. Our team is trained to stabilize, rewarm, and coordinate higher levels of care when needed.

🧤 Know the warning signs: confusion, excessive fatigue, slurred speech, loss of coordination, or severe shivering — or no shivering at all.

Layer up. Stay dry. Check on those most vulnerable.

🚑 We are here 24/7 — ready to make critical decisions and provide critical access when it matters most.
