Putting this out here again...Know anybody who might be able to help us???
Do you have nice horse that is just standing in the yard? Has life has gotten too busy for you to ride or perhaps you have a kiddo who has gone off to college? Maybe your finances are stretched and it would make sense to thin your herd?
Nevada Equine Assisted Therapy is searching for a new horse to add to our herd.
The ‘Ideal’ horse will be:
• 14.3hh – 15.2hh
• 6- 16 yrs of age – several of our horses are older and we need to look towards the future w/younger horses
• SOUND – no work limiting health issues
• Well started – walks, trots and canters on a lunge line and under saddle
• Gets along well with other horses
• Has been ridden in an arena and on the trail w/out issue
• Good Ground Manners. Clips, ties, bathes, trailers, stands for vet/farrier
Good temperament - gentle, quiet, willing and cooperative (we work with kids as young as 4 YO)
What we offer:
Quality care – our horses get regular Vet and Farrier care, plus any special care/feed they may require. Stalls are cleaned twice daily and horses are rotated in turnout with other herd members at least every other day. Horses are blanketed in the winter when the temperature goes below freezing.
Minimal physical work required – our horses are schooled a minimum of two times per week. They do not work more than 3 hours a day, usually at the walk - trot, up to 5 days per week. They get a minimum of two full days off without any client work.
MEANINGFUL WORK: Our horses are our partners in the metal/behavioral healthcare work we do. We work with children as young as 4, teens, adults and even seniors. We are providing or clients with social, emotional and behavioral growth and learning as well as Psyco-Social Rehabilitation, a mental health intervention. A lot of the work we do is on the ground and about building a mutually respectful and trusting relationship with the horse.
All horses complete a *90-day trial so that we can assess their suitability for the program. (*Trial may be negotiable/shorter based on if the horse shines or we recognize that the horse will not be happy doing the work we do.)
As a therapy program with limited resources. However, consistency is important for our clients, so we looking for a permanent placement but will consider a long-term feed/care lease situation. Please be honest and let us know how your horse measures up to these requirements. THANK YOU!
