🏒💙 Wildcats take over hockey night!
Western Nevada College students, faculty, staff and families filled the stands Friday night at the Tahoe Blue Events Center to cheer on the Tahoe Knight Monsters — and support WNC at the same time.
Thanks to the event, a portion of ticket sales was donated to the WNC Foundation, helping support students and programs across our campuses.
Fans were treated to an exciting matchup as league leader Kansas City edged the Knight Monsters in a thrilling 6–5 hockey match. WNC spirit was strong in the crowd, with President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, Chief Advancement Officer and Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys, Vice President Coral Lopez, student government leaders and Foundation board members all cheering on the home team.
One of the night’s biggest highlights! WNC representatives riding around the ice in the Knight Monsters’ Thermal Technology vehicle between periods, firing up the crowd and showing their Wildcat pride!
A big thank you to everyone who came out for a fun night of hockey while supporting WNC students. 🐾🏒

✨ Clear skies and cosmic sights await! ✨
With beautiful weather in the forecast this month, it’s the perfect time to explore the night sky at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory.
Join us for our free Saturday Night Star Parties on March 14 and March 21 from 6:30–11:30 p.m. and experience the wonder of the universe. With sunny days leading to clear evenings, conditions should be ideal for viewing planets, stars and distant galaxies through the observatory’s powerful telescopes.
"Both Uranus and Jupiter are well-positioned for observation," said JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring. "Uranus is a nice little fuzzy, blue dot, but Jupiter looks spectacular and the four Galilean moons are easy to see in a telescope. We'll also be able to see my favorite active star formation region, M42 the Orion Nebula, and some excellent galaxies including Andromeda, Bode's Galaxy, and the Cigar Galaxy."
Whether you're a first-time stargazer or a seasoned space enthusiast, don’t miss this chance for discovery, accessibility and cosmic wonder.

From machinist to mentor — Gillian Hammons’ journey proves opportunity can start at WNC and lead anywhere. 🔧➡️📚
After graduating from our Machine Tool Technology program in 2023, Gillian launched her career as a tool and die maker — but an unexpected opportunity changed everything. Today, she’s teaching high school machining students in Tennessee, passing on the same hands-on skills and industry mindset she built at WNC.
Her story, which can be given a closer look at https://ow.ly/eVl150YqyCH, is a powerful reminder that technical education doesn’t just build careers — it builds leaders, mentors and future workforce champions.
