🐾 NAMI Western Nevada Staff & Board Member Pets Need Your Help This Holiday Season! 🐾🎄

At NAMI Western Nevada, our staff and board members know firsthand just how much love, comfort, and joy our pets bring into our lives. They’re our support systems, our best friends, and sometimes even our emotional anchors on the toughest days. Because we understand the powerful bond between people and animals, our hearts are especially full as we join Candy Cane Lane in supporting local animal shelters this holiday season.

Across Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties, countless animals are waiting for warmth, hope, and a second chance. By donating to Candy Cane Lane’s holiday drive, you’re helping ensure those animals receive the food, comfort, and care they need while they wait for their forever homes.

From wagging tails to gentle purrs, our own pets remind us every day that all animals deserve safety and love. That’s why this partnership means so much to us.

Items in high demand include:
-Cat & dog food (grain-free/chicken-free options welcome)
-Wet dog/cat/kitten food
-Treats, toys, blankets, and litter
-Leashes, harnesses, collars
-Small animal food
-Cleaning supplies, wipes, paper towels, laundry soap, bleach
-Potty pads, pill pockets, litter boxes

Every donation—big or small—brings warmth and comfort to animals who need it most.

Stop by Candy Cane Lane (Tourmaline Dr. & Mica Dr. in Carson City) Fridays–Sundays from 5–9 PM (and all Christmas week) to enjoy the magic of the lights, drop off donations, send a letter to Santa, and sip some hot chocolate or cider—all while helping our local shelters.

Our furry family members thank you. We thank you. And the shelters thank you.

NAMI Western Nevada hosted an awards brunch to honor the 2025 CIT Officers of the Year who exemplify dedication, compassion, and true service to our communities.

From warm opening remarks to a delicious brunch buffet and heartfelt award presentations, the event was a wonderful celebration of collaboration between mental health advocates and law enforcement partners across Nevada.

A huge congratulations to all of the 2025 awardees for their unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by mental illness. Your leadership and empathy make a difference every single day.

A special shout out to the Brewery Art Center for sponsoring the event and Fun with Food for catering!

NAMI Western Nevada is excited to join the wonderful Candy Cane Lane community this holiday season to support local animal shelters across Lyon, Carson, Storey, and Douglas Counties.

Candy Cane Lane begins Friday, December 5th. This neighborhood has a tradition of bringing joy and connection to our community, and we’re honored to partner with them in spreading kindness and compassion during this special time of year. ❤️✨

🐾 ANIMAL SHELTER DONATION DRIVE
If you’re visiting Candy Cane Lane or looking for a way to give back, we welcome donations of:
• Dog food (including grain-free/chicken-free varieties)
• Soft treats
• Hard and soft toys
• Blankets
• Harnesses, leashes, and collars
• Wet food
• Pill pockets
• Clorox wipes
• Cleaning supplies for kennels
• Paper towels

All donations will go directly to helping shelter animals stay fed, warm, and cared for this winter.

Building Empathy Through Experience!

Education Director Crystal French led a Pat Deegan Hearing Voices Lab during Carson City’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department.

This powerful, hands-on session helps participants understand what it can feel like to hear voices — inspiring compassion, reducing stigma, and improving crisis response for those living with mental health challenges.

Huge thanks to the Carson City Sheriff’s Department for hosting this impactful training and for your commitment to empathetic, informed service! 🙌
