Today our Community Wellness Alliance team connected virtually with fellow Upper Cumberland coalitions.

It’s always valuable to come together, share ideas, and strengthen our regional prevention efforts.

Thrive.youthcoalition was able to represent today at Prevention Alliance of Tennessee’s Day on the Hill at the State Capitol. They were able to witness the process of passing important bills at the state level and they heard important information about the Kratum bill, To***co Retail License, and V***r Retail Tax.

Being able to see youth from across the state speak on these important bills is so motivating and inspiring! The work done in prevention throughout the state of Tennessee is so important for the future of our state.

Many people don’t realize how dangerous fentanyl is.
Its potency means the risk of overdose is extremely high—especially when people don’t know it’s present. Education and open conversations can prevent tragedy.

Laws exist for a reason.
If teens can’t legally purchase vapes or alcohol, adults shouldn’t be supplying it. Early use increases health risks and normalizes unsafe behaviors. Let’s work together to keep our youth safe and healthy.

Kratom and other so-called “gas station drugs” are often marketed as safe or natural alternatives but they are largely unregulated and can carry serious risks.

According to the FDA and CDC, kratom contains opioid-like compounds that may cause:

• Dependence and withdrawal
• Liver toxicity
• Hallucinations and seizures
• Risk of overdose, especially when mixed with other substances

Just because something is sold legally doesn’t mean it’s safe. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have in prevention.

Community Wellness Alliance offers drug prevention education, overdose prevention and education and recovery support at no cost. 615-588-1622 or email: Tammy@SmithCoDrugPrevention.org
