🩷🩵🤍Happy Transgender Awareness Week 2025!🩷🩵🤍
This week, folx around our country celebrate Transgender Awareness Week to help increase understanding about transgender identities and the issues members of this community face. Trans Awareness Week takes place the week leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th, which honors the memory of transgender individuals whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence and hatred.
Transgender individuals are substantially more likely to face discrimination and threats to their safety based solely on their identity and gender expression, more than any other group within the LGBTQIA+ community, and specifically BIPOC trans* individuals have the highest risk.
The movement for LGBTQIA+ civil rights was originally championed by BIPOC transgender women, who brought national attention to the movement for equality. These women cared for their community and fought for all LGBTQIA+ people to have the freedom to live as they are. Because of transphobia and anti-Blackness, these women often faced even more discrimination as they fought. Now more than ever, we honor these brave leaders, and hope to stand on their shoulders as we continue the mission of equal rights for all people in our country.
To our current day trans* friends, family, children, and community, it’s our turn to bravely march forward and have your voices centered and uplifted in the mission for progress. The world is better for you being in it, and thank you for existing and continuing to remind us all of the possibilties for liberation and freedom for us all. You are not alone.
