We were honored to be a platinum sponsor for The Alliances Rally for Recovery last weekend. In a culture where it feels increasingly that intentional shrinking of one’s body is back in style, and every other ad is for a product encouraging weight loss, it can feel a little harder to muster the words “Not one more.” Because we know that statistically, pursuing weight loss increases the risk of eating disorders. This weekend was a reminder that we can and should, proudly, continue to shout “Not one more” as hope for more appropriate and attuned treatment to be offered to all of those with eating disorders, so that not one more life is lost and so that fewer and fewer precious moments of life are destroyed. It is deeply powerful to be in community with those who are on this journey of recovery. I am honored to be one of you, and Take Root is proud to support you. Many, Many thanks to McCall and Southern Smash and to the amazing organizing committee for creating this opportunity to celebrate recovery together.

“Diet culture impacts each and every one of us on a regular basis, no matter which media forms we partake in. In the United States, the weight loss market is estimated to have reached $135 billion in 2025 (Research and Markets, 2026). Imagine if that $135 billion was spent on helping you build a connection with your body, accept your size and shape as it was genetically predetermined to be, understand movement that feels good to you, and eat foods that make you feel nourished and happy. If I had a magic wand, I would make this happen!”

Meet Take Root SW intern Amy Richards! Amy is an educator with extensive experience working with both children and adults. Her passion for mental health, creativity, recovery, and social justice led me to pursue a career in clinical social work. Her lived experience, along with a strong interest in somatically informed attachment work, nervous system regulation, and the wisdom of the natural world, shapes her clinical approach.

Amy works with clients navigating Eating Disorders, OCD, and related anxiety disorders, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as ACT, ERP, and I-CBT. She is especially passionate about supporting individuals in midlife transitions, including menopause and its intersection with eating disorders. She provides LGBTQIA2S+ affirming care. She deeply values the therapeutic alliance and works to cultivate a space that feels safe, supportive, and centered on each client’s unique needs and goals.

She is currently offering free 15-minute phone consultations and is scheduling clients for sessions in late May. Pro bono and sliding scale options available, email her directly at amy@takerootpllc.com
