Here's a fun idea. Let's take a messy desk surface and work on several areas of executive functioning development...
First, set a Timer for 15 min to keep this task short and sweet. Then work through this list. If the timer goes off, take a 3 min break and then begin again. Use that timer for breaks too!
🧹Clear the Surface- Remove everything from the desk and sort items into categories: Keep, Trash, Donate/Recycle, and Relocate.
📦Categorize Items-Group similar items together (e.g., writing tools, papers, electronics, etc.) to identify what belongs on the desk and what doesn’t.
🧽Wipe Down the Desk-Clean the surface to create a fresh start.
📐Set up Zones-Assign specific areas of the desk for different activities or tools (e.g., a writing area, a tech zone, storage corner).
🗄️Organizers- Use trays, bins, or drawer dividers to contain smaller items and reduce clutter.
✏️Prioritize Frequently Used Items- Place items used daily (e.g., notebooks, pens) within easy reach, while less-used items can be stored elsewhere.
📂Tackle Paperwork- Sort papers into actionable (to-do), reference (to file), and trash piles. Use folders or binders for organization.
🔌Cords- Use cable organizers, ties, or clips to keep cords tidy and untangled.
