Buckle up. New study shows that red light improves brain function and reduces alzheimers plaques
Researchers asked --> "Does the color of light affect Alzheimers disease?"
They tested different light wavelengths on Alzheimer’s mice:
- 40 Hz white
- Red light
- Green light
- Blue light
What they found:
Only red light consistently reduced beta-amyloid plaques and improved cognition
Mechanisms they measured:
- ↑ ADAM17 (clears amyloid-β)
- ↓ BACE1 (generates amyloid-β)
- ↓ IL-1β inflammatory signaling
- ↑ c-fos neural activation along the visual pathway
In other words red light helps the brain remove toxic proteins while optimizing neuronal function and reducing inflammation
What didn’t work? Blue and green light
(They showed no cognitive benefit and no plaque reduction)
Are you seeing the pattern yet?
Your brain is one of the most mitochondrial dense organs in your body.
Red + infrared light = mitochondrial medicine
Isolated blue light = mitochondrial stress
The modern world is full of isolated blue from screens/LEDs/indoor lighting while filtering out nature’s red/NIR component that feeds and heals the brain
Alzheimer’s is a mitochondrial and circadian disorder. Its a light environment mismatch.
