When a provider throws out “amniotic fluid embolism” as a reason you must get an epidural… we need to talk.

AFE is one of the rarest complications in birth — we’re talking 1 in tens of thousands of births. It’s unpredictable, not preventable, and an epidural doesn’t magically stop it from happening.

So when a birthing person declines pain medication and suddenly a rare emergency is used as leverage?
That’s not evidence-based care — that’s coercion wrapped in medical language.

You deserve real information, real options and a provider who trusts you to make decisions about your body.

You don’t lose your autonomy because you’re in a hospital. Your rights don’t get checked at the door.

And to you — I’m so sorry this happened to your sister

No one deserves to be spoken to this way in their birth space.
