I was at a Health Fair event recently and a common question for the nursing outreach booth was how should people exercise when they have diabetes.
The answer is resistance training. It's safe and effective when done well
Resistance training was associated with improvements in markers of insulin resistance, including insulin (mean difference, fasting glucose, and HbA1c as well as a modest reduction in BMI.
Resistance training increased muscle mass in both upper-body and lower body as well as a significant reduction in C-reactive protein (an inflammation marker).
So everyday busting ass at the gym?
Nope : 3x a week for 12 weeks shows the changes.
Start somewhere. Don't let yourself get the sugar foot!
