So we obviously aren't getting any reach right now (Goes with the territory sometimes) but I want to share some things that have been on my mind lately. This is a bit lengthy however as compared to Hekate's vastness it is but a scratch on the surface.
I am posting this not to entertain arguments about whether or not Lucifer is your deity, I am posting this so you understand if Lucifer is your Deity, you are not connecting with Hekate through him. Genuinely he is an entirely different concept. The amount of confusion I see amongst modern day practitioners , especially with all the knowledge you could ever need at your fingertips, is mind blowing. (Sometimes people just make s**t up as they go I think) Hekate and Lucifer represent two entirely different traditions, each with distinct meanings and histories.
Hekate is a Greek Goddess strongly associated with magic, witchcraft, the night, ghosts, the moon etc. She is a Titan Goddess which was a group of deities who existed before the Olympians, and maintained her importance even after the Olympians rose to power.
Hekate is often connected to moments of transition, serving as a guide between different liminal states, such as life and death. She is celebrated for her protective abilities, wisdom, and guidance.
Lucifer, by comparison, comes from Christian theology and later literary works. Known as a fallen angel, he is often tied to ideas of rebellion and pride. The name Lucifer means "light-bringer" or "morning star" in Latin. In Christian narratives, he is portrayed as a celestial being expelled from heaven for defying the Christian God’s authority. Over time, particularly in some occult perspectives, Lucifer has also come to represent enlightenment, autonomy, and intellectual pursuit. Unlike Hekate, whose origins are firmly rooted in ancient beliefs not associated with christians worship, Lucifer's identity stems from Judeo-Christian traditions and later interpretations.
Both Hekate and Lucifer are associated with light, but their meanings differ significantly. Hekate’s epithet Phosphorus translates to "light-bringer" and is tied to her connection with the moon and her guiding role during the night. Lucifer’s name also means "light-bringer," but his association with the morning star ties his light to rebellion and self-empowerment.
Hekate’s light symbolizes protection and safe passage through transitions, while Lucifer’s light reflects independence and defiance.
Hekate’s epithets shed light on her many roles. These titles reveal her broad influence, emphasizing her role in both physical and spiritual domains. Her epithet Phosphoros illustrates her role as a bringer of light during times of uncertainty, which is distinct from Lucifer’s connection to the morning star and his symbolic association with rebellion. This has been my public service announcement after I tried to hang out in some different groups etc. Please understand I am not trying to tell you who or what you should worship, however if you are honoring lucifer thinking you are honoring Hekate, you would be wrong. If you want to mix some Latin into your Hekatean Witchcraft maybe start with asking for her protection instead of calling her Hekate Lucifer. That struck a nerve in my eyeball when I seen that. I will now return to my lane with Hekate as my guide. - rant over...😅
