A disturbing new study published in Cell Metabolism reveals that even LOW DOSES of artificial sweeteners like aspartame may significantly increase cardiovascular disease risk.

Here's what researchers discovered:
- Aspartame consumption increases insulin levels through vagus nerve activation—even without raising blood sugar
- This elevated insulin triggers inflammation in blood vessel walls via a specific pathway (CX3CL1-CX3CR1)
- The inflammation accelerates the formation and growth of arterial plaques—the hallmark of atherosclerosis that leads to heart attacks and strokes

Most concerning? These findings were validated in both mice AND monkeys, strengthening their relevance to human health.

This groundbreaking study helps explain recent population studies connecting artificial sweetener consumption with increased cardiovascular disease.

The findings suggest that people with existing heart disease risk factors might want to reconsider regular aspartame consumption, as it could potentially accelerate atherosclerosis through this insulin-inflammation pathway—completely separate from any effects on body weight or blood sugar.

“Who you are, what you think, feel, and do, what you love—is the sum of what you focus on.” —Winifred Gallagher, from her 2009 book Rapt

We tend to believe that our happiness depends on our circumstances—where we live, what job we have, our social status, etc. But as Gallagher notes in her book, decades of research have contradicted this idea. Instead, our brains build meaning and create a worldview based on what we pay attention to. This is why gratitude practices are so effective. It also explains how some people can continue to be happy despite extremely challenging circumstances. As the Zen teacher Cheri Huber says, “the quality of your experience is determined by the focus of your attention.” Food for thought!

Before Easter (Pascha), Passover was the primary holy day celebrated; however, Christianity closely links the two holidays. Jesus’s last supper was a Passover meal. By the 2nd century, Pascha was being celebrated alongside Passover as well as pagan spring festivals.

The tradition of an Easter Bunny comes from medieval Germany, where the Osterhase or Easter Hare would lay its colorful eggs in nests prepared by children. Immigrants in the 18th-century settling in the Dutch Pennsylvania countryside brought this fable and tradition with them to the United States.

Dying eggs is a tradition that dates back thousands of years across many cultures. Eggs symbolize rebirth, fertility, and life springing forth. Today Easter egg hunts take place across the country. It is not unusual to see children in their Sunday best surrounding a giant Bunny. Many will also get their picture taken, too!

While Vitamin C is widely recognized for warding off colds, the vitamin is also clinically proven to be a powerhouse in other areas of health, too. For example, Vitamin C may reduce blood pressure and potentially lower the risk of heart disease. Those at risk of gout can lower that risk by increasing their intake of Vitamin C.

Topically, Vitamin C keeps skin healthy by protecting it from oxidative damage caused by daily exposure to light, heat, and pollution. The popularity of topical vitamin C products has risen dramatically.

With the right product, adding Vitamin C to your beauty regimen can brighten your skin, reduce inflammation, and promote healthy collagen production. Vitamin C brightens just about any health routine.
