This is Abianne. Our founder and a Citizen of the Chickasaw Nation.
Her perspective shapes how we run CatSpring Yaupon.
How we harvest, who we work with, and what we stand behind.
In Chickasaw tradition, a warrior is a steward of the land.
That idea isn’t something we revisit once a year.
Earth Day is just a reminder for us. And it’s behind every cup we make.

Earth Month: careful by design🫶🌿Every step, from our harvest to our packaging, is designed with intention and care for the Earth. From the moment yaupon is harvested, we handle her with respect and restraint—never rushed, never wasted. That same intention carries through to what you hold in your hands.
Every tea bag, including the overwrap, is 100% compostable. Our boxes are FSC-certified and made from post-consumer recycled paper.
From plant to package, we’re working to leave as little behind as possible.

This Earth Month, we raise our “branches”🌿to the plan that has sustained many Indigenous peoples for centuries. Yaupon holly, the only caffeinated plant native to North America, grows wild in existing ecosystems across the southeastern U.S., without irrigation or agricultural inputs.
Harvesting is done by cutting, which allows the plant to regenerate and continue growing in place. This maintains the surrounding landscape rather than replacing it. A managed, ongoing harvest from a native system. And it will remain that way.

Kickstart your Saturday with a deliciously spiced Yaupon chai latte😍and yes, you can make chai with yaupon loose leaf tea! Whatever you can make with your standard selection of teas, yaupon is an amazing substitute!
Yaupon Chai Recipe:
2 cups of your milk of choice
2-4 tbsp of CatSpring Yaupon Loose Leaf Tea (either our medium or dark roast)
2 tbsp sugar (or zero sugar sweetener)
2 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
2-5 cloves
2 cardamom pods
Bring milk and spices to a low simmer, then add your yaupon tea. Simmer for another 10-15 minutes to deepen in flavor and color. Strain into mug and enjoy!
(PS… if you don’t have our loose leaf tea, you can throw a couple of our teabags in the milk — they wont harm you with chemicals and are entirely compostable because we care about YOU and the earth🫶🌎)

At CatSpring Yaupon, we cultivate and roast farm-fresh yaupon. We like to say “It’s Texan, for tea”. As the only naturally caffeinated indigenous plant in North America, it was brewed for centuries by Native Americans.
CatSpring Yaupon is committed to sustainable practices in making use of natural resources, personal transformation in our community, and a return to family values.
We’re returning to pure American goodness.
We’re sisters and we’re co-founders.
We started harvesting on family land in Cat Spring, TX.
And we’ve learned, at the end of the day, sustainability is about more than just the land. It’s about people, too.
That’s one of the reasons we created our people first employment initiative to provide dignified employment opportunities in our underserved communities.
We know the criminal justice system is broken, and our aim is to take a stand against the inequities that this system creates. We work directly with probation officers in our rural community to identify individuals who want their future to look different than their past and hire them as our harvesters. And in our packaging facility, we work with women who have a history of generational poverty.
Thank you for being a part - and wanting to curate a moment for yourself.
