Discomfort with empathy is usually about unprocessed fear, shame, or threat — not “truth telling.”

Observing, not engaging.

Coping skills ≠ OCD treatment.

Therapists: if this is still your approach and you want support, consultation is available!

Clients: if therapy hasn’t helped you face discomfort without rituals, it’s okay to ask for a different approach.

Hot take for therapists:
Coping skills aren’t the treatment.
They’re support — and sometimes they get in the way.

Not every uncomfortable feeling needs a coping skill or a reframe.
Sometimes the skill is staying.
And letting the nervous system learn that discomfort is okay.

👉 If therapy has only taught you how to calm discomfort instead of tolerate it, you’re allowed to ask for a different approach.

When intrusive thoughts show up and you short-circuit😆

That uncomfortable “wait… I’m not supposed to make this go away?” feeling is actually part of effective OCD treatment.

Exposures aren’t about feeling better —
they’re about teaching your brain you can handle discomfort without rituals.

If discomfort is running your life and OCD is calling the shots,
it might be time to work with a therapist trained in ERP.

OCD pitching a compulsion like it’s a great idea.

Empathy isn’t extra.
It’s baseline.
And when it starts to feel radical, something is deeply wrong.

Being a therapist doesn’t mean I’m immune to the weight of the world.
It means I see, every day, how much people are being asked to endure.
Existing is already hard. Healing shouldn’t be this uphill.

Recharging my battery the way my nervous system actually understands it.
Slow steps. Fresh air. Nature doing what it does best.

Things clients say that make therapists pause…and scream internally😆

Not because you’re “doing therapy wrong” —
but because these phrases usually mean shame, fear, trauma, or survival learned somewhere else.

Also yes…
the traumatizing lore with five minutes left in session will always keep us humble.

If you’re a therapist: which one made you pause?
If you’re a client: you’re not wrong for saying these — they make sense and they’re worth slowing down with.
