At our hospice, quality of life means honoring who each person is and what brings them joy.

One of our patients lived in California and worked on trailers for Featherlite, even getting to work on NASCAR trailers. He’s a lifelong NASCAR fan — especially Dale Earnhardt — and a motorcycle enthusiast who once owned his own bike. 🏁🏍️

Over time, we’ve learned that God, nature (especially dogs), music, NASCAR, and motorcycles are the things that truly spark connection and excitement for him.

Yesterday, our team planned a special visit for him, and he experienced a trip to the Harley-Davidson shop. When they started up the bikes for him, his face lit up the entire time — the biggest smile we’ve ever seen.

Moments like these are why we do what we do. Providing personalized experiences that bring comfort, dignity, and joy is at the heart of our hospice care. ❤

Happy Anniversary to these dedicated team members! Thank you for all that you do!

Hospice care is designed to give patients more control, not less. The patient decides where they want care, whether it is at home, in a facility, or another comfortable setting - and they choose what matters most to them.

Hospice teams work with the patient and their family to honor wishes, manage pain and symptoms, and provide emotional and spiritual support. This means they can spend their time focusing on meaningful experiences - sharing stories, enjoying favorite activities, and being present with loved ones.

Hospice is about dignity, autonomy, and improving quality of life every step of the way.

Is hospice only for the last few days of life?

Hospice care is not just for the final days. Many patients receive hospice support for weeks or even months, giving them more time to focus on what matters most.

Hospice care is designed to improve quality of life by managing pain and symptoms, reducing stress, and providing emotional and spiritual support. Patients often feel more comfortable, more in control, and more connected to loved ones because the focus shifts from hospital visits to meaningful moments at home or in a familiar setting.

Is hospice a place you have to go?

Hospice is not a specific place. It’s a type of care focused on comfort and quality of life, and it can happen wherever the patient feels most at home.

Hospice teams bring care to you - managing pain, easing symptoms, and providing emotional and spiritual support - so you can spend your time doing what matters most. Whether it’s sharing meals, listening to music, or simply enjoying quiet moments, hospice helps make those experiences possible.

Does choosing hospice care mean you’ve given up?

Hospice care is about living fully in the time you have. It focuses on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Patients often feel relief knowing their pain and symptoms are managed, their wishes are honored, and they can spend meaningful time with loved ones in a familiar setting.

Hospice helps patients regain control, reduce stress, and enjoy the things that matter most - whether that’s sharing stories, listening to music, or simply being present with family and loved ones.

Care Initiatives Hospice

Care Initiatives Hospice provides compassionate care throughout Iowa for those in their final stages of life.

Our hospice caregivers meet you where you are, coming to your home, a long-term care center, assisted living residence or hospital to administer compassionate hospice care. Our approach addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those facing life-limiting illness for themselves and their families. We work closely with family members and caregivers to respect the wishes and needs of our patients and their loved ones.
