“Early detection can save your life. Since being diagnosed with cancer, I’ve had some of the scariest appointments I’ve ever had, but I still walk out of each one so thankful that I have the opportunity to tackle these challenges. Not everyone has that opportunity, and thanks to early detection, I do.”

In March 2024, Leslie Coffin of Marion, IA, had a mammogram that led to a breast cancer diagnosis - and a genetic discovery that may have saved her life.

Leslie's routine mammogram led to a breast cancer diagnosis—and a genetic discovery that may have saved her life.

"I can’t express how much the gift touched my heart. It brought a little bit of light to our lives during this difficult time!"

These are the words of Kristin, the daughter of a patient at the Community Cancer Center. Through our Family Care Program, we were able to provide a children's book and matching puppy plush toy for Kristin's son, Oliver.

The Family Care Program, which is funded by a grant from the Aiming for a Cure Foundation, was established to provide extra support for cancer patients with young children or grandchildren, because cancer affects the whole family. In addition to gifts like these, the Family Care Program provides education and resources, as well as special events for families throughout the year.

Cancer touches us all - including members of our team and their families. One of our care coordinators, Connie, cares for patients with cancer every day, but in 2025 it hit close to home when her brother Dan was diagnosed. This past Wednesday, she was there to help him celebrate as he rang the bell and placed a ribbon on our large ribbon display to mark the end of his radiation treatment! What a great way to ring in the new year. Congratulations, Dan!

We are so grateful for community partners like Phil Decker and his Tell5Friends Foundation. Yesterday, Phil stopped by to donate $4,000 worth of gift cards for our colorectal cancer patients! This included fifty $50 Hy-Vee gift cards, as well as three $500 Visa gift cards for patients with more extensive financial need.
