It’s midnight somewhere, right??? 🤩🥳🥂 Today, we had our last social hour of 2025 to ring in the new year with the winter sunset as our countdown! 🌅 2025 was a great year of growth and so many incredible moments with our Garnett family and we can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for us next!!

We are always looking for new activity ideas to try and we think the sillier, the better! Special holidays always help us with this search and we just have to say, we think there might need to be more reindeer involvement in other holidays so we can bring out this ring toss again! 🦌

Our activity team ventured over to Coralville for their “Holiday Lights at the Lake” and what a magical treat that was! The twinkling lights and holiday spirit were oh so bright! 🎄✨

We give this a 5 star review and if you are looking for something to do before the new year, we definitely recommend this! This event is going through until New Year’s Eve with the exception of tonight due to the weather ❄️

Hearing the musical talents of young students in our community is exactly what we needed to get us in the holiday spirit! 🎄❤️

Our Sales Coordinator, Tahlia, wanted our December event to be one that got us in the holiday spirit while showcasing how special our community is by coming together to make special treats to send our residents, staff, prospects and community partners with special holiday boxes filled with their favorites. 🎄🍪

Our community definitely delivered! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳 Our residents and staff made and donated close to 750 treats for this event and while Saturday’s snowstorm prevented so many of our planned attendees from safely coming, it didn’t break our holiday spirit! ❄️ It was so special to hear from each person that came that in their box was one of their favorite cookies as “community” is all about being seen and being heard!

We thank everyone who donated treats to our event and thank all of those who were able to attend! If you weren’t able to come and collect your free holiday box of treats, please schedule a tour with Tahlia at (319)533-5050 or thauptly@garnettplace.net and let us know what your holiday favorites are and we will have them here in the community for you this week! ☃️

‘Tis the season for granting wishes! 🎄 Our activity team has put together a program to give back to our residents! You can find this mini tree in our main activity room and it’s decorated with tags for non-specific items for donations. We also have an Amazon wishlist of items for this program which can be found at the following link, https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3E7LTF5WLRUD6?ref_=wl_share. Here’s what’s new at Garnett Place! ✨

We now have a Crochet and Knitting Club that gathers together every Thursday at 2:00p and we are loving the opportunity to pick back up those knitting needles and crochet hooks to create together each week! 🧶Some of our residents are certified pros, some are relearning how to do this skill after quite some time and some are brand new beginners; and this is where you come in! 😎

We are looking for any volunteers who are willing and able to come in and join our group to teach us how to knit, crochet or lead specific projects. If this sounds like you, please reach out to our Life Engagement Coordinator, Darla, at dkonzen@garnettplace.net!! 😊

❤️ We honor and thank our Veterans today and always! 💙 We are so grateful for your service and we celebrate your dedication, courage and sacrifice!

Today, we are so proud to have recognized Veterans Day with a visit to the historic Veterans Memorial Building this morning and a Veterans Day social this afternoon with red, white and blue snacks and an opportunity to recognize and thank our very own community Veterans! 🇺🇸

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a night of trick or treating with us last Friday! We wish all of our young friends a very happy and safe halloween!!! 🎃

Last night we hosted our very first “Taco Tunesday”with a taco bar and karaoke night and the pure joy that emanated from our activity room was everything 🥰🎶 🌮 We can’t wait to make this a regular event within our community taking place every other month so we hope to see you all for the next one in November!!! Until then, we’ll be getting our go-to karaoke songs ready and hope you will too! 🎤
