🌄 On Top of The Town! 🚌💨

We took an adventurous afternoon bus ride to the top of Mount Trashmore recently to visit this local landmark.

🌬️🌆 Once a landfill filled with 6 million tons of garbage, this incredible site has been transformed into a scenic recreation area — and it’s now the highest point in Linn County!

🏞️ Some of us stayed cozy on the bus while others braved the wind and headed to the top taking in breathtaking views of downtown Cedar Rapids. 💙

🎁❤️ Spreading Holiday Cheer ❤️🎁

The season of giving is here and our community is proud to once again support Toys for Tots - Linn County/Cedar Rapids! 🎄✨

🪀🧸 Both of our buildings are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0–14 to help bring joy to families who may struggle this holiday season.

🎁Drop-offs can be made in the designated boxes in either activity room, NOW through December 4th.

Please note — no clothes, food or used items; but gifts like puzzles, books, family games, wrapping paper, tape or gift bags are all wonderful ideas! 📚🧩

PS. Did you know? Last year, this amazing program distributed over 21,000 toys, books and stocking stuffers to more than 7,800 local children — and together, we can help make this year even brighter. 💕

🍬 A Sip of Sweet Nostalgia ☕

Laughter filled the room as we reminisced about Halloweens past while sipping their delicious creations. 👻💛

👻🎃 Halloween at The Keystones 🕷️👻

On Halloween, our amazing kitchen staff created FUN apps; “eye balls” bbq meatballs, “spider eggs” deviled eggs and an orange Chex mix. 🍹🍸 We also enjoyed spooky music and spiked apple cider.🍬

We held a staff pumpkin decorating contest where residents, families and other team members got to be the judges. 🎃 Sue from activities was our BIG winner!✨

We had a spooktacular time celebrating Halloween at the Keystones of Cedar Rapids!

👻👽 From delightfully decorated halls and creative costumes to sweet treats and laughter echoing through every corner — the spirit of the season was alive and well at our Trick or Treating event! 🍬🧡

BIG Thank You to all the families that came – our amazing residents LOVED seeing the little ones dressed up!!

🎃 Every smile and laugh reminded us that the best part of Halloween isn’t the tricks or the treats, but the joy of celebrating together. 💕✨

🍷🍕 A Toast to Friendship and Flavor 🍻🍔

Our monthly lunch outing took us to the charming Cedar Ridge Distillery in Swisher, Iowa. ☀️

😆 Between the laughter, beautiful scenery and the mouthwatering menu - we couldn’t have asked for more! (the “Killer Cow” pizza was as bold as its name! 🍕🐮)

Before leaving, our vibrant crew of residents stopped by the gift shop to pick up bottles of their locally made wine 🍇🍷 — the perfect souvenir to remember a wonderful day.

Originally from Waukon, Iowa, Arlene is a proud mom of 2 children and grandma to 2 wonderful grandchildren. 🧡👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Arlene is a woman of many talents:

🎳 She once bowled with a 170 average.
🥧 She earned the nickname "The Pie Lady" and even had her own cookbook published.
📖 She wrote a special book for her grandchildren titled “Poor Little Rich Girl”.
🎨 She’s always loved crafting and making things with her hands.

We’re so lucky to have Arlene’s warmth, creativity and stories here at Keystone! 💫

🎃 Super Seeds on a Chilly Day! 🧤🍂

On a cold and gloomy afternoon, we warmed things up with a deliciously healthy baking project — roasting pumpkin seeds! 🌧️🧡

🧄🌰 Residents chose between two flavorful options: garlic & onion powder or cinnamon & sugar. Everything was organic, non-GMO and baked to perfection at 325° for 20 minutes.

While the seeds roasted, everyone watched a fascinating video about why pumpkin seeds are known as "super seeds" — packed with magnesium, zinc, healthy fats, protein, fiber and antioxidants! 🌟💪We learned that they boost heart health, blood sugar, immunity and even sleep quality — they taste amazing too! 😋🍽️💕

Viola brings sunshine to the night shift as one of our overnight medication aides. With 8 years at Keystone under her belt, she’s known for her teamwork, dependability and warm smile — no matter the hour! 🌙😊

With a heart as kind as her smile, TiShannon has been part of the Keystone family for 10 years! 💖 She’s known for her gentle spirit, endless patience and willingness to help anyone — and no one has ever seen her upset! 🫶

Jenny is our go-to problem solver and a true leader. She’s been with us for 5 years and always makes sure the job gets done — if there’s a challenge, Jenny either fixes it or knows exactly who to call! 🛠️🌟

We are so grateful for these wonderful women and everything they do to care for our residents and support each other as our 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift Caregivers . 💪💛

💜 Honoring Love Through Service: Dennis’s Story of Compassion & Commitment 🌿

We are incredibly proud to share the touching story of one of our very own residents, Dennis, whose heart for service continues to inspire us . 💖

Dennis volunteers regularly at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, where he shares his time, talent and compassion—all in memory of his beloved wife, Pat.

🫶 Dennis and his amazing wife Pat volunteered here together for decades and have made a difference for countless families. 🌼

After Pat’s passing in 2023, following a brief stay at the very hospice house where they both served, Dennis continued his commitment to honoring her legacy.

💬 “To me, it’s an uplifting place,” Dennis shared, “Maybe I see it differently than a lot of people, but I just appreciate being here.”

His story reminds us that giving back can be one of the most powerful forms of healing. 💕 Help us show Dennis how much we appreciate his acts of kindness and service by leaving him a heartfelt comment.

Dennis supports Hospice of Mercy with his time, talent and treasure.

🎃 Fall Flair & Pumpkin Prep 🍂

We are getting into the autumn spirit! 👻🎃🧡

🎃 Using decorative mesh, faux fall flowers and a lot of creativity, we turned plain pumpkins into beautiful pieces of seasonal décor—perfect for brightening up our homes this time of year. 🎨🍁
