👁️ February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month 👁️

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a progressive eye condition that affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. AMD can make activities like reading, driving, and recognizing faces more difficult over time.

There are two main types of AMD:
• Dry AMD – the more common form
• Wet AMD – less common but more severe, involving abnormal blood vessel growth

Risk factors include aging, family history, smoking, and prolonged UV exposure. While AMD may not cause noticeable symptoms early on, routine comprehensive eye exams can help detect changes before significant vision loss occurs.

Early detection is key! Regular comprehensive eye exams can help identify AMD in its early stages and slow progression with proper care and treatment!

👁️ January is Glaucoma Awareness Month 👁️

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” — and for good reason. In its early stages, it usually has no warning signs, yet it can cause permanent vision loss if left untreated.

🧠 So what is glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye.

⚠️ Why Awareness Matters:
✔️ Vision loss from glaucoma is irreversible
✔️ Early detection can slow or prevent further damage
✔️ Regular eye exams are the best defense

👥 You may be at higher risk if you:
• Are over age 40
• Have a family history of glaucoma
• Have diabetes or high blood pressure
• Are African American, Hispanic, or Asian
• Have had eye injuries or long-term steroid use

✅ Protect Your Vision:
👓 Schedule routine comprehensive eye exams
📅 Follow treatment plans if diagnosed
