In 2021, our family’s world was shaken when my husband, at just 39, began experiencing a relentless tremor in his leg. After being dismissed, unseen and unheard in the ER, we finally found a provider who recognized it as young-onset Parkinson’s. While we were relieved to have an answer, her words gave us very little hope. She basically forecasted a future where my husband would barely be able to move and advised him to “take it easy” and accept his descent into neurodegenerative decline. My husband had been competing in Ironman triathlons—movement was his life—and we refused to accept a path defined by fear and limitation. Additionally, as a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience, I knew we could find a better path forward, given my years of training, skills, and expertise. I didn't realize it at the time, but maybe a career in nursing had prepared me in more ways than I realized for such a time as this. I had been an advocate for health for many years ... but now it was extremely personal. Thankfully, we later found a better doctor who not only gave us hope but also introduced the idea of nutrient replacement. From there, we started digging deeper on our own and discovered a more effective way to restore hydration, minerals, and vitamins: functional IV therapy. I had spent many shifts giving IV nutrition to patients in hospital settings, but now it is a much-needed outpatient treatment as well. Since then, nutrient IV therapy has been a game-changer. People with Parkinson’s often struggle with hydration and fatigue, and symptoms worsen when the body is depleted of essential elements. Not to mention, it can be hard for PWP to get enough protein because the oral medications interact with protein; therefore, supplementation with IV amino acids that bypass the digestive track becomes really important for the body to make protein. Supporting him through targeted IV wellness has made a real difference in his energy, recovery, and daily function. I’ve also experienced my own transformation through functional wellness—losing 45 lbs, sleeping through the night, and feeling like myself again despite being in a perimenopausal phase of life!

4 years post-diagnosis, my husband is still working full-time, successfully raising 3 boys, instilling grit, determination, and resilience in them. He’s an attentive, devoted, and supportive husband. He’s volunteering with CHS band boosters, exercising/ training, and helping support others through The Parkinson’s Fight Club Community he created, because finding support to live the best life is not only possible...it's attainable. I always tell my clients: most of us have a sick-care plan… but do we have a wellness plan? Your wellness shouldn’t be reactive — it should be intentional.
