My kids have had a lot of strep throat the last few months. I have taught them the Wong Baker Pain Scale. I have had multiple health professionals say wait your kids know how to use a 0-10 pain scale and chuckle. As a physical therapist and a mom who has been to the doctors office about 8 times due to strep throat since the New Year I have taught them how to be accurate as a way to monitor the sore throats. I have them rate their throat daily 0-10. My son once told me the pain was 100. I get this often from patients which made me laugh. I told my kids 10 means you were hit by a truck, broke multiple bone and need to go to the hospital. My son then replied well what’s a 1? I showed him this pain scale he said ooo so 1 is you got hit by 1 donut. I laughed and said sure buddy. He said oh I got it and getting a box of donuts thrown at you is 5/10🤣 and 7 boxes would definitely be a 7/10 because that would make you cry but not as much as a car hitting you. We laughed but he understood the pain scale much better after this.
😁🥲🤕This is a great scale that all kids and adults should know. If you ever need to reference it quickly just google pain scale. Kids can point to the face, say the color of the face, say a numer or say mild/moderate/severe to rate their pain.
📱They also have made versions for screen time to check in with kids to help them stay regulated which I will post in the comments because as a mom with kids who enjoy screens this is also another great assessment tool⬇️
