For those who don’t know me, let me introduce myself:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🙋‍♀️ I’m Dr. Alyssa, a physical therapist & dance specialist.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I work with dancers of all ages, genres, & skill levels, helping them not only recover from pain or injury, but to reduce their risks of future injuries.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I particularly love working with dancers to improve their technique and performance, whether it’s for recitals or competitions. This includes things like checking out your shoes & providing recommendations for talking with your fitter, working on translating feedback from teachers, coaches, or judges, or reviewing performance videos to help you improve specific movements or skills.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also offer special sessions like pointe readiness assessments, annual dancer physicals, and other programming options. Even if you’re not exactly sure WHAT you need, feel free to reach out & we can figure out what’s the best fit for you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds (if not thousands!) of dancers in the community for years - but I’m not just “a dance PT”. I’ve been a dancer for my entire life too!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I still regularly train, perform, & compete in a variety of styles, most notable, West Coast Swing. If I’m not in the clinic or doing my work as a CU PT faculty member, I’m probably on the dance floor somewhere!

I’m proud to be working alongside such a great team: .alicebarnes .chirichella.dpt .doug.haugh

Had an amazing time at again!

This community thrives on the passion and expertise of professionals worldwide, working together to advance the health & well-being of dance community.

Between learning, networking, and dancing, this conference is the highlight of my year!

Thanks to everyone who made it special, from old friends to new connections and everyone in between.

Now it’s time to head back home - excited to bring back all I learned to my clients and my students.

Here’s looking forward to the next one in Melbourne!! 🇦🇺

It's a whirlwind of a month, and we're about halfway through it!

Two weekends ago, I attended the Therapeutic Pain Neuroscience course from EIM, taught by the amazing Dr. Adriaan Louw.

This past weekend, I was in Seattle, competing at Retaliation Swing (West Coast Swing) and taking the Judges Training course. I mock judged every non-routine division (aside from my own), meaning over 70 dances in 3 days! I learned so much in the process. I also ended up taking 3rd place, earning a super cool trophy AND now qualifying for the next division at my next competition weekend.

This week/weekend, I'm off to Las Vegas, where I'll be attending and presenting at the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science annual conference. I'll also be participating in some additional meetings as Chair of the Small Business Owners Special Interest Group.

My IADMS session is called "Navigating partnered dance: strategies for injury reduction & flow in the context of modern Swing".

Finally, I'll be attending and presenting at the annual conference for the American Physical Therapy Association Colorado Chapter, with a topic titled Beyond the Norm: Exploring the Full Spectrum of PT Careers".

Needless to say, it's a FULL month but it's full of things that I love doing!

This past weekend, I attended Retaliation Swing for the first time (& for their first year as a WSDC-sanctioned event).

First, I had the opportunity to take a Judges Training with the amazing Wren Newman. With several hours of educational sessions and over 70 competition dances-worth of mock judging, I learned a LOT!

I also participated in the Intermediate J&J, taking 3rd place with my partner, Elizabeth Wyke, who I'd never met or danced with before. We had some amazing dances & a great time!

This also means that I've now earned enough points to progress to the Advanced level for my next contest!!

So excited to be invited by to participate in this faculty webinar!

I've been teaching the wound care/management content in our curriculum for a few years now and, this past year, was able to use this new PhysioU Fundamentals Course within my course.

In this webinar, we'll be discussing how I integrated this new resource into my existing course, what worked well and what I plan on approaching differently next year, and more.

Hope to "see" you there!

Awesome to see a event at the same hotel as !

I hope some of the dancers gets to see a little of what the other does, because both are AMAZING!

“I’m off the clock and on the floor.” 🕺💃

For the first time in years, I’m heading to SwingTime *just* as an attendee—and I’m genuinely excited about it.

Usually, you’ll find me providing hours of PT care behind the scenes, scrambling to participate in a comp or a bit of late-night dancing when I can. But this year, between weekend logistics, a full clinic move, and wrapping up a hectic semester while transitioning to a full-time faculty role… I just couldn’t make it work to be there in a professional capacity.

So instead, I’m giving myself the *rare* chance to simply enjoy: workshops, competitions, social dancing, and actual time in the ballroom to connect and catch up with folks outside of sessions at a large local event.

I plan to be back in action next year—but for now, if you see me, come say hi. I’ll be on the floor... *and* off the clock. 😄
