Many of our older community members, those with disabilities and even PA's children who depend on caregivers are most vulnerable to the pure neglect of the decision last week to NOT fund home care. More people in need will now go without care and this is a disgrace Pennsylvania! Please use your voice to advocate for them and the many unpaid home caregivers who have no choice then to find work in other fields increasing risk for all seniors and those in need!
This is how you deepen the in-home care crisis in PA. The new state budget abandons 94% of Pennsylvania’s home care workers — and the seniors, children, and people with disabilities who rely on them every day.
“This is not leadership. It’s abandonment,” said Pennsylvania Homecare Association CEO Mia Haney.
Every month, more than 112,500 care shifts go unfilled, and one in four authorized nursing hours never takes place. Lawmakers had two independent, taxpayer-funded studies showing the clear path forward: invest in home care now or face higher costs from hospitalizations and nursing home placements later.
Instead, they funded just 6% of the workforce, ignoring the rest. The result? More families left alone to care for loved ones without help.
It’s time to fix this in the 2026–27 budget — before the system collapses completely.
