Trauma doesn't look the same for everyone — and for many men, it's been carried in silence for years.
Substance use. Anger. Disconnection. Shutdown. These aren't character flaws. They're often the body's response to experiences that were never safe to process.
Our men's trauma recovery track was built for exactly that — a structured, judgment-free space where men in recovery can finally do the deeper work.
Because healing isn't just about staying sober. It's about understanding your story.

Meet Tara — Program Coordinator and, as we lovingly call her, our Chaos Coordinator extraordinaire.

If Sunlight Wellness & Recovery runs like a well-oiled machine, there's a good chance Tara is the one holding the wrench. She keeps our team on track, our clients where they need to be, and somehow manages to make it all look effortless — often with a smile and a perfectly timed one-liner.

But behind the humor is a deeply warm, empathetic professional with an eye for detail that doesn't miss a thing. Tara brings a rare combination to our center: the kind of organizational precision that keeps operations humming, and the kind of genuine care that makes clients and colleagues alike feel seen and supported.

She is the heartbeat of our daily operations, and we truly couldn't do it without her.

For many men, substances become a way of managing pain that has never had another outlet. Our men's trauma program creates space to explore that connection — without shame, and without judgment. Because real recovery isn't just about stopping use. It's about understanding what the use was for.

Meet our Clinical Director, Anastasia (Ana) Joswick, LMFT, CADC ✨ Staff Spotlight ✨

Anastasia's career has been rooted in something we deeply believe in: that the best care happens when evidence-based research meets real-world application.
At Sunlight, Ana leads our clinical team with the same philosophy — bridging the science of recovery with the humanity of the healing process. She brings rigor to our programming and heart to our culture, and our team is better for it every single day.

We are so grateful to have her guiding the way.

"Men in the United States die by su***de at a rate four times higher than women. And yet, men are diagnosed with depression and mood disorders at far lower rates. Why is this?"

We created our Men's Trauma program to address the unique needs of men in recovery.

Physicians need better training and empathy for the distinct symptoms and societal expectations men face to treat them effectively.

For some people, Dry January is just a reset. But what if taking a month off showed you something unexpected?

Maybe it was harder than you thought. Maybe you counted down to February 1st. Maybe you realized “just one drink” feels impossible to stick to.

If Dry January felt more like a struggle than a cleanse, that’s information worth paying attention to.

Needing help doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it means you’re honest enough to recognize your relationship with alcohol might not be working anymore.

Recovery isn’t about shame. It’s about reclaiming the life you want to live.

If Dry January opened your eyes to something bigger, we’re here to help you figure out what comes next. ☀️

Meet Alyssa Leister, MA: Primary Therapist

Alyssa has a gift for being both deeply empathetic and refreshingly direct. She creates structure wrapped in compassion, and she’s especially passionate about working with women navigating the complexities of boundaries and relationships.

What sets Alyssa apart is her curiosity. She doesn’t come with pre-made answers; she comes with thoughtful questions that help you discover your own truth.

At the office we love the dry sense of humor, random acts of kindness and depth of care for colleagues and clients.
