A groundbreaking study has just uncovered a startling link between lupus and a virus carried by 95% of the global population a discovery that could forever change how we understand, diagnose, and treat this complex autoimmune disease.

The virus in question is Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) the same virus responsible for mononucleosis. While EBV is typically harmless and lifelong in most people, scientists now believe it may be the trigger behind every known case of lupus, a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues.

Researchers found that in lupus patients, EBV reactivates abnormally and produces certain viral proteins that mimic human proteins, confusing the immune system and setting off chronic inflammation.
