What's so special about the Greenwalt House in Chambersburg, PA?

This is where General McCausland first revealed to his officers the plan to burn the town of Chambersburg.

It sits 1 mile west of Chambersburg on a hill overlooking the town and was a prominent hotel in the late 1800s.

This was one of the few buildings spared from the destruction of the fire on July 30, 1864.

Confederate forces burned homes, businesses and public buildings reducing nearly 2/3 of the town to ashes.

Today, the Greenwalt House stands as a silent witness to the destruction and the town's resilience in rebuilding after the fire.
