Today is Giving Tuesday—a day created to encourage people to do good. For many, hospice care brings peace, comfort, and the chance to create meaningful memories when time is limited. For Deborah Johnson, a Hospice of Washington County patient, it also meant reliving a cherished part of her past—the Great Frederick Fair. With the support of her care team and her devoted sister, Linda Reed, Deborah’s hospice journey has been filled with compassion, dignity, and one unforgettable wish fulfilled.
Thanks to generous community donations, Hospice of Washington County provides essential care to every patient, regardless of ability to pay, bringing comfort, connection, and deep gratitude to families like Deborah and Linda’s. “So many people can benefit from this support,” Linda says. “It’s made such a difference for us. Today is Children’s Grief Awareness Day, a day that reminds us of the thousands of children who are grieving the loss of a loved one—often quietly, and often without the support they need. Grief in children is not always visible, but it is always significant. Whether it’s the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent, or close friend, children experience grief in unique and profound ways. National Philanthropy Day is celebrated annually on November 15. This day signifies the importance of working together for the common good. Philanthropic deeds come in all different shapes and sizes — charitable giving, volunteering, etc. — and on National Philanthropy Day, no act of kindness goes unnoticed. President Reagan first proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day in 1986, and communities all throughout the world have celebrated the importance of this occasion ever since. November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month! At Franklin Hospice, this month is dedicated to honoring the importance of comfort and quality of life for those facing serious illness. This year’s theme is “We See the Whole You”. A reminder that hospice and palliative care honors each person’s values, story, and goals; they see the person for who they are, not just their condition. Our devoted caregivers, clinical teams, volunteers, and staff who work tirelessly to ensure that every patient receives the highest standard of compassionate care to live every moment. We also celebrate the courage of our patients and their families, who inspire us every day. Talking about hospice and palliative care opens doors to understanding and empathy. Join us this month in spreading awareness and appreciation for the invaluable difference hospice can make.
