Grounding IS medicine. I know there are gimmicks and misinformation out there about it, but try this grounding exercise at the most basic level:

Go outside barefoot. Sit, stand, lie down, or do resting pose on the earth.

Close your eyes, maybe point your face into the sun or the moon.

Take a few slow, deep breaths.

Say out loud: “I am grateful. Thank you for all of this.” Say it a few times. FEEL it. See what comes up for you.

It’s crazy how something so simple has the potential to bring up big emotions, deep thoughts, or elicit peace in your mind and your body.

Do this at least once a day!
Just lean forward and just hang out there.

Bend your knees as far as you need to so there is no tension in your back or legs.

Allow the weight of your body to stretch you, calm your nervous system, and give you any messages it needs to empart about where you’re holding tension or need to relax.

Sway around a bit, play with movement that feels good, or just hang out and be a limp rag for a couple minutes.

My real strength as a massage therapist—and the work that brings me the most joy and fulfillment—is getting people out of their heads and floating in that liminal space between sleeping and waking. I believe (and have seen) that this state is where some of the most profound healing and restoration take place.

This morning I made time for myself to meditate and do a sound healing to decompress and get aligned for a very full day of clients.

I looked over and saw how pretty the room looks and wanted to capture a photo. And look at the little orb on the shoulder of the massage table! 🥹

I believe in magic (why would you not??) and I choose to believe that there is a little orb spirit hanging out with us at the spa today. Welcome, little guy! Let’s do magic!

“What brings you in today?” I say this 3-5 times a day and I always look forward to hearing your answers.

Stress at work, sore muscles, baby keeping you up at night, it’s your birthday, your anniversary, you’re carrying the responsibilities of an entire household…There’s always a reason to invest in your self care.

Sometimes people are so stressed when they come in that when they emerge after their massage they literally look like a different person. It’s wild how 90 minutes of turning off your brain and resting your body can actually transform you.
