The Balanced Buddha

The Balanced Buddha Tahnya Smith is an Integrative Nutrition Coach and Mindful Meditation Facilitator Worldwide and Massage Therapist I was transformed by my massage therapist.

Noticing how nutrition is the key to health and well-being, I became a nutritional coach. I attend the Institute Of Integrated Nutrition, specializing in gut health. It is through this school I have learned to educate and empower people to live their best life. Bodywork was one of the modalities I used after a car accident in 1992. Tissue that was stubborn and painful became soft and malleable. I wasn't just physically healing, I was introduced to my life calling. I received exceptional hands-on training in 1997 and graduated after a 2 year program. At the start of my career while living in Wausau, Wisconsin, I worked with a group of women who helped shape my awareness of the importance of therapeutic touch, holistic health, and always giving back to the community. They also influenced my drive for continuing education so that I can be my best for my clients. Immersed in bodywork full-time for over 20 years, I continue to be grateful that massage is a part of every day for me. Since graduating, I have become certified in many different modalities including Neuromuscular Therapy, Reflexology, Tui Na, Swedish, Table Thai, Muscular Release Technique, Myofascial work for the upper body including mastectomy's, Aromatherapy, LaStone Therapy, Fire Glass Cupping, Myofascial Cupping and Reiki. These modalities and more have proven to me the transformative potential of therapeutic touch, breath work, proper nutrition, and mindfulness. My curiosity in healing doesn't stop with bodywork. I am a student at heart. Learning keeps me stimulated and alive. I am CPR and First Aid Certified. I have taken classes that work with movement, dry brushing, psychology behind healing, universal energy, Hospice care, stretching, acupressure, hypnotherapy, and even Ancient Chinese Astrology. Through this knowledge I offer my clients a customized approach to their sessions. I am a Certified Mindfulness Facilitator, having completed a program with the prestigious Mindfulness Without Borders School. I have been able to spread the beauty of mindfulness by teaching 3 month workshops for adults and children. My approach to mindfulness honors where each person is in the moment. Teaching compassion for self and others, breath work, having a new perspective, finding gratitude, pain management, new approaches to communication, and creating resilience. I value Mindfulness as an evidence-based approach to a better lifestyle. In my professional life I enjoy bringing mindfulness into my bodywork sessions. Teaching my clients about meditation and how is can work holistically in our sessions. In my personal life, I practice mindfulness in my home with my husband and children. As well as Mindful Meditation, I have also been trained and offer Yoga Nidra to my clients.

For cancer prevention, the evidence points to a diet centered around plant foods with minimal animal products. Many foods included on our Daily Dozen checklist, including berries, leafy green vegetables, beans, flaxseeds, garlic, onions, turmeric, and green tea, may be particularly beneficial for cancer prevention. Most top cancer-preventing vegetables belong to one of two superfood families: cruciferous veggies, such as broccoli, kale, cauliflower, and cabbage, and the allium veg, including garlic, leeks, and onions.

Eat one big clove’s worth of crushed raw garlic, and, within hours, you get an alteration of the expression of your genes related to anti-cancer immunity. Does this then translate into lower cancer risk?

Ten population studies put together found that those who reported higher consumption of garlic had half the risk of stomach cancer. What is considered to be a high intake of garlic? In each study, it was different—from consuming garlic a few times a month to every day. Regardless, those who ate more garlic appeared to have lower cancer rates than those who ate less, suggesting a protective effect. Given that stomach cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death around the world, garlic may be a relatively cheap and accessible food to incorporate into our diet for cancer prevention.

What about garlic for heart disease prevention? Should we eat garlic raw or cooked? We've got videos on that! Check out the following resources on https://bit.ly/3ekYbIJ to learn more and to see the study references:

This morning my son, Amare sent me this picture of his eggs. Both of my children are thoughtful humans. So sweet and seeing special little messages in the most interesting places.
This post is a reminder to find gratitude in all the small things life has to offer you throughout the day. In the midst of being bombarded with negative news and the negative that people may talk to you about throughout this day, you can overshadow it by looking for the small messages of love and kindness that are right in front of you.
