A picture is worth a thousand words. If you have not made your gift to CRi today, please give a priceless gift of a smile this Giving Tuesday.
It’s Giving Tuesday, one of the final days of CRi’s 50th birthday year! A general operating support gift in a multiple of $50 would be such a meaningful way to celebrate the CRi caregivers that are the heartbeat of our mission.
A simple holiday activity can be challenging for people in our care with special needs. Even a simple outing might cost at least $250 to staff between travel to and from an event and hours at an activity.
The young adults in our LIFT program are transitioning out of Foster Care into adulthood and independence. For those that may not have reliable transportation, it can get expensive ordering a car service. This year, we are asking for your help to ensure the individuals in our LIFT program can get to work, school, appointments, etc. This Cyber Monday, please consider “Giving a Lift” for the holidays by donating a $25-$50 ride-sharing gift card (Uber or Lyft for example) to our LIFT program. Contact Shannon White for more details at volunteer@mycri.org

We had such a wonderful time joining Volunteer Fairfax at this year’s VolunteerFest at the Pozez JCC in Fairfax, celebrating 30 years of this incredible community tradition. The energy and generosity in the room were inspiring as everyone came together to assemble 75,000 meals for local neighbors in need.
CRi also hosted an interactive activity where guests wrote the name of someone they know living with developmental disabilities or mental health needs on our community canvas. It was a powerful reminder that we all know someone who needs care and support, and that breaking the stigma begins with awareness, compassion, and connection. 💚
A heartfelt thank-you to all the amazing volunteers who made this event such a success!

OUR NAME HAS CHANGED, BUT OUR STORY REMAINS THE SAME.
We are excited for change, but rooted in a deep history. As we grow & re-brand to be better for you, we pride ourselves on making sure that we never forget where we came from.
Community Residences began in 1975 when a group of Arlington families, faith groups and government leaders worked with Arlington County to charter an independent nonprofit agency that would bring together and expand efforts to help people with mental health and/or developmental disabilities.
At its outset, Arlington Community Residences (as it was initially known) stood at the forefront of the growing community integration movement. This grass-roots, family-driven effort sought to create community-based alternatives to the institutionalization of people with mental health or intellectual disabilities. Arlington Community Residences brought together a few existing group homes and started several new homes so that Arlington resident with disabilities could live close to and regularly interact with family, friends and and neighbors.
As the community integration movement grew and the demand for community-based alternatives expanded, Arlington Community Residences became Community Residences when services were initiated throughout Northern Virginia, the Richmond area, and in
Maryland. Expansion was not only geographic; CRi also began to offer case management and transitional support for people who were homeless, residential youth services, day programs for adult with developmental disabilities, and home-based clinical and practical support for people living on their own.
Over the past four decades, thousands of individuals have been supported by CRi. That tradition continues with individualized support providing for fulfilling, high-quality lives of maximum independence.
We look forward to the future & are excited to see just what we can accomplish, together!
