The Melanoma Research Foundation is pleased to invite you to our upcoming Together Against Melanoma Patient & Caregiver Symposium, held in collaboration with UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

This is a free, in-person event for anyone interested in learning more about melanoma.

This educational program brings together leading melanoma experts and the local community to share the latest information in melanoma care, research, and support, while also providing space to connect with other patients and caregivers.

We are pleased to announce that we will have two new faculty members join us in the coming months, Dr. Karishma Desai and Dr. Sabah Osmani, both as Assistant Professors of Dermatology.

Dr. Karishma Desai is a current Dermatopathology Fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center (Houston, TX). She completed her medical degree and residency in Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. She holds a special interest for community service, caring for underprivileged populations, and global health. She is originally from Chapel Hill.

Dr. Sabah Osmani is currently a Resident here at UNC Chapel Hill. She completed her medical degree at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Osmani has participated in the Teaching as a Resident: Highlighting the Evidence and Enthusiasm of Learning (TARHEEL) program and The Healer’s Art course, both of which focus on mentorship, collaboration, and teaching.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Desai and Dr. Osmani to our faculty. We look forward to the expertise and dedication they both will bring to our faculty, patients, and learners. Please join us in welcoming them to the UNC Dermatology community this fall!

Dr. Chris Sayed, Professor of Dermatology, was recently featured in a news story covered by CBS17 focused on his area of specialty - Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS).

The story follows one of Dr. Sayed’s patients, Clifton Young, as he shares his story regarding his care and treatment, as well as the struggles that come along with HS. Dr. Sayed continually promotes awareness and treatment of HS and is proud of Clifton for being an advocate for patients like himself.

The UNC Chapel Hill Department of Dermatology is thrilled to announce the launch of the UNC Dermatopathology Fellowship Program, officially opening its doors in July 2026!

The program is directed by Rami Al-Rohil, MBBS. This new program offers clinically focused, up-to-date, interdisciplinary training in Dermatopathology for fellows coming from both Dermatology and Pathology backgrounds.

This past Tuesday, we hosted the first event in our Educational Evenings series. The night featured talks from Dr. Maggie Coates covering Rheum-Derm Therapeutics and Dr. Laura Ferris covering Psoriasis Consensus Criteria. We also were excited to host visiting speaker, Dr. Fabio Nunes, who discussed Drug Development from Bench to Bedside.

It was a wonderful night for our residents, faculty, and friends from Duke Dermatology who joined!

Drs. Donna Culton & Carolyn Ziemer have escaped the chilly North Carolina weather to attend some tropical Winter Meetings!

Dr. Culton met up with former resident, Dr. Kevin Dahle, at the Maui Derm meeting. Dr. Ziemer ran into Dr. Kevin Ciriacks, another former resident, at the Derm Foundation Clinical Symposium in Naples. We hope everyone is enjoying reconnecting and staying warm!
