Happy International Pathology Day from UNC Dermatopathology! Here at UNC Dermatology, we have two amazing Dermatopathologists — Dr. Jayson Miedema and Dr. Rami Al-Rohil. Together with their team of Histologists, they provide diagnostic pathology services to UNC Dermatology patients and patients from other referring clinics.

Drs. Miedema and Al-Rohil additionally lead educational sessions for all Dermatology, Pathology, and Family Medicine residents. We’re lucky to have such an amazing team of experts within our department!

For our next faculty spotlight, we would like to showcase Rami Al-Rohil, MBBS! Dr. Al-Rohil just had his one year anniversary with UNC Dermatology earlier this month, having joined us in October 2024. Dr. Al-Rohil serves as our only full-time Dermatopathologist.

Dr. Al-Rohil completed his Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degree at the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan. This degree comes from the United Kingdom’s higher education track and is equivalent to an MD degree in the United States! Dr. Al-Rohil completed a Medical Internship and Anatomic Pathology Residency in Irbid before coming to the United States, where he completed an additional Anatomic/Clinical Pathology Residency at Albany Medical Center (NY). He was both a Surgical Pathology and Dermatopathology Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Al-Rohil’s past appointments include Assistant Professor of Pathology at Vanderbilt University and Associate Professor of Pathology at Duke University.

We’ve enjoyed having Dr. Al-Rohil on faculty this past year and we look forward to watching his career develop further here at UNC Dermatology! 🩵
