UNC Hearing & Communication Center The UNC Hearing and Communication Center is a non-profit, nationally recognized audiology practice.

In 2004, the UNC Hearing and Communication Center was established at the intersection of Farrington Road and Highway 54. Our convenient, off-campus location makes access to comprehensive audiology care even easier. Each of our five licensed audiologists is also a professor in UNC’s Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences. As a teaching clinic, the UNC HCC prides itself in evidence-based methods of care, which are proven to provide patients with the most effective communication. We utilize the newest research and cutting edge technology in every aspect of treatment. We look forward to working with you, wherever you are in your hearing journey! Whether you are seeking help for the first time or have worn hearing aids for years, the UNC HCC is dedicated to providing individualized, comprehensive and compassionate hearing care for each and every patient.

Every year, the American Academy of Audiology asks colleagues, friends, and mentees to look around their professional circles and identify members who are deserving of recognition for outstanding service to audiology and the hearing sciences. This year's winner for Outstanding Educator is our very own Dr. Stephanie Sjoblad!!! We are so proud and know that she is fully deserving of this award after decades of committed graduate teaching.

Come say "hello" to Dr. Patricia Johnson at the Orange County Department on Aging 2024 “Health and Wellness Fair” on May 15.

The Department on Aging’s Wellness Program is excited to host the Health and Wellness Fair to maximize the health, well-being, community engagement, and independence of older adults at all functional levels.

The FREE event will take place on Wednesday, May 15, from 9am – 1pm at the Passmore Center located at 103 Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough.

The event features:

Free Tote Bag to First 100 Guests: Get your free Department on Aging tote bag filled with helpful goodies!
Medication Disposal Drop Box: Bring your expired, unused, or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal.

Upcoming American Sign Language Classes offered at the Passmore Center!

Are you interested in learning American Sign Language? The Passmore Center will be offering ASL I,II,III courses instructed by Vicki Robertson, who has a masters degree in Deaf Education and has over 40 years of experience teaching sign language! The first session will begin August 3rd, with all levels meeting on the same date but at different times (with prices ranging from $10-$15 per session).

Please join us in welcoming our new hearing aid and vestibular specialist: Dr. Katie Roberts! Dr. Roberts joined the faculty of the Division of Speech and Hearing in July of 2023. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings throughout her career, providing patient-centered care across the lifespan. Dr. Roberts has also served as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo teaching doctoral students both in the clinic and classroom. Her interests in audiology include assessment of the vestibular system as well as assessment and intervention of hearing disorders. Currently, Dr. Roberts works in the clinic providing audiologic and vestibular care to patients and one-on-one supervision to audiology doctoral students.

She is a licensed audiologist in North Carolina and is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. Outside of audiology, she enjoys spending time riding horses, kayaking, golfing, and cheering for the Buffalo Bills. Welcome to UNC, Dr. Roberts!
