Our very first relationships in life are with our caretakers. It's through their interactions with us that we come to develop a set of expectations for what it is to be loved and cared for. Unfortunately, caretaking is hard, and many of us experience some degree of childhood trauma which can have an impact on how we handle relationships in adulthood. That means, when our relationship faces change or threat of change, those of us with insecure attachment styles might become anxious, avoidant, or even disorganized.

The s*x talk can be just as hard for young people hearing it, as it is for the caretakers who have to give it 😳 For many of us growing up, The Talk may have been uncomfortable, embarrassing, or maybe even shameful. Those negative feelings, if left unexamined, could lead to issues later in our s*x lives, like struggling to ask for what we want, confusion around consent, or even self-loathing related to kinks and fetishes.

That might feel like a lot of pressure, but looking from another angle you can see it's all about freedom! Talk with your young adult honestly, empower them to make meaning of their own s*xuality, and keep the conversation open 🌱 So try out these five tips and give your young adult a better The Talk than you ever got 🥇
