Sometimes the first sign of dyslexia is not that reading instruction failed every child. It is that it failed one bright, capable child.
That is part of what makes dyslexia so confusing for families. Parents may watch one child learn to read with little trouble, while another struggles despite being bright, hardworking, and trying hard.
In many cases, the issue is not effort. It is that the instruction is not a good match for how that child learns.
