In January, many of us make resolutions to eat better. To sustain this resolution throughout the year and support long-term mental and physical health, keep it simple. Better hydration, lower sugar, and a rainbow of fruits and veggies can have a significant impact on energy levels as well as overall health! (And stay tuned...February is National Sweet Potato Month--NC's state vegetable, grown year-round in the state--so your Culture of Health team will be sharing lots of delicious ways to eat your sweet potatoes!)

Enjoy a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables and avoid mindless snacking, says a UNC Nutrition Research Institute dietitian.

Happy Friday! It's National Coffee Break Day. Coffee breaks became an official employee benefit in 1900--we needed them as the 8-hour workday was implemented in factories. Coffee boosts our focus and energy and provides us with antioxidants. And coffee drinkers may live longer than non-drinkers! According to Harvard Health Publishing, research has linked moderate intake (about 3–4 cups per day) to a longer life span, as well as a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson's disease. Enjoy a coffee break today!

It's National Public Health Week! Today, APHA offers a call to action to make an impact on public health in your community: join a community garden, donate to food pantries or volunteer at local food distributions, ask questions at public forums or join a community advisory board, advocate for your local elected officials to address health disparities. encourage your local government to support healthy community design and to fund programs to prevent unhealthy living conditions, engage your public health peers and elected officials on health topics on social media, etc. Get your friends and family involved, and make it a community activity!
