not much has changed since my last post (which I am including below). We are still camping, going to the free meals at the IFC Kitchen as often as we can, and working toward getting into some sort of income-based housing. The rainy, colder weather has made life a little more difficult lately but we are still hanging in there.
Since late July Tiffany and I have been camping in a friend's side yard in Chapel Hill. We have been very grateful for the place to stay and have made our campsite as. comfortable as we can. We have learned, however, that Tiffany is going to have to have surgery to remove a cyst from her spine and this has considerably changed our plans
We were working toward being able to move to one of the many countries where our income would be adequate to live comfortably and we are not giving that up in the long term. We have decided, however, that we will need to get into a real home here and probably stay long enough for Tiffany to have (and recover from) the more pressing surgery to remove a spinal cyst and probably to fuse the vertebra at that point and then have the neck surgery that they are saying needs to be done before long. Recovering from surgery in a tent is not a viable option.
We are investigating income-adjusted housing options and working with folks at DSS, SORAD, and other local agencies and getting on wait lists for some of the places that offer income-adjusted rentals. In the meantime we are making our campsite as comfortable as possible and working through things in storage to identify things to sell or give away in order to reduce our storage space and, as a result, our storage expense (especially since the cost of our storage space will go up from $294/month to $426/month in November... just under 24% of my social security check).
We welcome any help locating affordable housing, navigating the various assistance bureaucracies, and getting from place to place. We currently do not have a vehicle and are depending on Uber/Lyft and rides from friends. If you can offer rides to and from. the free meals at the IFC Kitchen in Carrboro at 11:15am and 5:00pm or at any other time for trips to the grocery store, to the pharmacy, and to pursue housing possibilities we would be very grateful.
We are in a very tough position financially right now. We spent quite a bit on preparations to move to Europe (now on hold). When the weather was awful or when one or the other of us was going through a worse than usual period of debility and/or pain we spent a lot on hotels. And, since losing our vehicles, we have spent a great deal on Uber and Lyft rides. For these reasons among others we have been starting out each month behind and winding up the month even further behind.
I know times are hard for most folks these days and if you are not able to help financially I completely understand. We are always very grateful for prayers, positive energy, and helpful suggestions. However, if you are able to offer even a small amount of financial help, we are on PayPal,
on Venmo, &
$TiffanyDoudera on Cash App.
In any case, please hold us in the Light and send positive energy/good vibes.
With gratitude,
Blessings Bright and Dark,

P.S. - Please feel free to pass this info on to others... we can use all the good energy, prayers, ideas, and other help that we can get. 🙏
