not much has changed since my last post (which I am including below). We are still camping, going to the free meals at the IFC Kitchen as often as we can, and working toward getting into some sort of income-based housing. The rainy, colder weather has made life a little more difficult lately but we are still hanging in there.
Since late July Tiffany and I have been camping in a friend's side yard in Chapel Hill. We have been very grateful for the place to stay and have made our campsite as. comfortable as we can. We have learned, however, that Tiffany is going to have to have surgery to remove a cyst from her spine and this has considerably changed our plans
We were working toward being able to move to one of the many countries where our income would be adequate to live comfortably and we are not giving that up in the long term. We have decided, however, that we will need to get into a real home here and probably stay long enough for Tiffany to have (and recover from) the more pressing surgery to remove a spinal cyst and probably to fuse the vertebra at that point and then have the neck surgery that they are saying needs to be done before long. Recovering from surgery in a tent is not a viable option.
We are investigating income-adjusted housing options and working with folks at DSS, SORAD, and other local agencies and getting on wait lists for some of the places that offer income-adjusted rentals. In the meantime we are making our campsite as comfortable as possible and working through things in storage to identify things to sell or give away in order to reduce our storage space and, as a result, our storage expense (especially since the cost of our storage space will go up from $294/month to $426/month in November... just under 24% of my social security check).
We welcome any help locating affordable housing, navigating the various assistance bureaucracies, and getting from place to place. We currently do not have a vehicle and are depending on Uber/Lyft and rides from friends. If you can offer rides to and from. the free meals at the IFC Kitchen in Carrboro at 11:15am and 5:00pm or at any other time for trips to the grocery store, to the pharmacy, and to pursue housing possibilities we would be very grateful.
We are in a very tough position financially right now. We spent quite a bit on preparations to move to Europe (now on hold). When the weather was awful or when one or the other of us was going through a worse than usual period of debility and/or pain we spent a lot on hotels. And, since losing our vehicles, we have spent a great deal on Uber and Lyft rides. For these reasons among others we have been starting out each month behind and winding up the month even further behind.
I know times are hard for most folks these days and if you are not able to help financially I completely understand. We are always very grateful for prayers, positive energy, and helpful suggestions. However, if you are able to offer even a small amount of financial help, we are on PayPal,
on Venmo, &
$TiffanyDoudera on Cash App.
In any case, please hold us in the Light and send positive energy/good vibes.
With gratitude,
Blessings Bright and Dark,

P.S. - Please feel free to pass this info on to others... we can use all the good energy, prayers, ideas, and other help that we can get. 🙏

Tiffany and I are slowly making progress toward getting out of our storage unit in Southern Pines and the non-climate-controlled unit at Prime Storage in Chapel Hill which have been costing us just over $500 a month. We are getting rid of a lot of stuff and moving the rest into three smaller climate-controlled units at Prime Storage in Chapel Hill. This will cut our storage expense in half right away and, as we donate or sell nearly all of our stuff and let go of two of the three units, it will reduce our storage expense to only about $60 a month. Once we get a place to live we can let go of that unit as well.
At the moment, however, we are in a very tight spot in that it is too cold for us to camp or sleep in the car and our money for the month has run out less than half way through the month. We hope to raise money by selling a lot of our things but that is a slow process and one we have not been able to focus on while dealing with downsizing our storage. In the coming weeks we will be listing a lot of things on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Ebay and I will post links to those items as they are listed.
Please keep us in prayers and send positive energy. I know times are tough for so many of you but, if you can, we would be very grateful if you are able to send even a little money. Our van is having major fuel injector issues and is getting terrible gas mileage (and the fumes are awful) but we have found a mechanic who is willing to do the needed work when we have the money to buy the required parts.
I do not have a place to do Reiki and Shamanic Healing work but will be happy to come to you if you are in the Triangle or in Wilmington and wherever you are I can do distance work.
if you are able to offer financial help I am BlackJaguarSky on Venmo, and Cash App. My old PayPal account had some issues but you can send to my new account at: https://www.paypal.me/OtorongoNoir. If you make a donation the apps may ask for my phone number. it is (919) 418-5310.
In any case, please hold us in the Light and send positive energy/good vibes.

We are hanging in there although things have been a little rough the last few days. Apparently being stored in the turtle top on the van during very hot weather destroyed the waterproofing on the rain fly of my tent and we woke up Thursday night to rain coming in like there was nothing above us and the tent totally flooded. We spent Thursday night in the car and Friday and Saturday dealing with the mess. By Friday night, we had dried out the tent and gotten a huge sheet of plastic to cover the tent. There was no rain Friday and Saturday and we got the wet sleeping bag, linens, clothes, etc washed and dried just in time to break camp in the rain today and go to Tiffany's neurology appointment in Chapel Hill this afternoon.
Tiffany's appointment last Monday was a major disappointment because someone messed upon the order for the nerve conduction test and nerve biopsy that we have been waiting months to get done at Duke Neurology. Duke blames Tiffany's P*P at UNC Family Medicine who was supposed to order the test and UNC blames Duke for loosing the order but regardless of blame the bottom line is Tiffany did not get the tests done. Fortunately we were able to get an appointment Tuesday with her Duke neurologist to get the proper order for the tests. Unfortunately it could be months before the tests can be rescheduled. We are hoping the appointment today is more productive.
As I have mentioned in previous posts, the cost for camping ($27 per night) plus paying regular expenses for gas, medicine, insurance, storage, credit card payments, car repair loan payments, phone bill, etc.. pretty much wipes out my social security check almost as soon as it comes in. We have managed to sell some of our things (and currently have an E-Bike for sale... see my page if interested). Selling some stuff and generous gifts from a few friends have kept us afloat so far but we are totally broke again only about half upway through the month.
We are on waitlists for section 8 vouchers in numerous places and for various income adjusted housing but it is likely to be a couple of months or possibly more before we can get into anything. In the meantime we take it a day at a time and do the best we can with what we have.
We continue to be grateful for Spirit's many blessings and for the love and support of friends (and some strangers). We know that all of this is just part of the adventure and will ultimately serve the Highest Good. I am not able to schedule energy work in person right now but am still able to do distance work. If any of you would like to be added to my prayer and/or distance Reiki list please message me. We are always grateful for prayers, positive energy and good vibes and, of course, we would be very grateful for any financial support, offers of a place to stay however briefly, and any helpful suggestions.
I know times are hard for most folks these days but if you are able to offer financial help I am BlackJaguarSky on Venmo, and Cash App. My PayPal account had some issues so my new account can be accessed at: https://www.paypal.me/OtorongoNoir
