The first installment of our Founder & CEO Yasmine White's new column, "Exploring Personal Power," is now out in the latest Issue of Exceptional Needs Today! 📚

"In my 30+ years as a music therapist working with individuals across the autism spectrum, I've witnessed countless moments of transformation. Yet, perhaps none more profound than when an individual discovers their personal power. At Voices Together, personal power isn't just a concept—it's the foundation of everything we do. But what exactly does it mean?"

We love the work that our Advisory Council member, Steven Strom, and the NC Fragile X Foundation have been doing, and truly appreciate our close partnership throughout the years!

The mission of the North Carolina Fragile X Foundation is to improve the quality of life for those impacted by Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) through promoting awareness and understanding. This is accomplished by providing education, support and advocacy.

FXS is a genetic disorder caused by a DNA mutation in the X chromosome. It results in a wide range of developmental, physical and behavioral problems and is the most common known cause of inherited developmental disability worldwide.

The gift basket for NC Fragile X Foundation's family picnic (proudly won by Mike and his son!) represents so much more than supporting one event. We're so very grateful to help and support each other through our close partnership!

The Voices Together team was on site to celebrate an incredible milestone with Beth Boney Jenkins, a true beacon of community service.

For 25 years, Beth's dedication has helped Onslow Caring Communities reach over $1 million in donations, a milestone we were on hand to help celebrate!

She helped form Onslow's board and in close partnership with the NC Community Foundation has made a real difference in their community.

Grateful for her leadership and honored to celebrate this special night together!

Recently, our Founder & CEO Yasmine White shared a conversation with VoyageRaleigh to talk about the unwavering vision and dedication behind Voices Together! 🎙️

Building an organization focused on profound human connection requires more than just passion—it requires proof. Our organization's mission is simple: to harness the tangible power of music supported by counseling, content, and skill building to unlock communication, growth, and purpose.

We're incredibly proud that our Voices Music Therapy™ (VMT) model is recognized as a clinical best practice, validated by a three-year study with Duke University. This research focus is essential, because it shows that our participants can and do progress, often moving from single-word speech to phrase speech in just 15 weeks, and gaining the skills and confidence to pursue independence.

The Voices Together team joined a network of providers at the NC Legislature this week to educate ourselves on the proposals in place to fund Medicaid and to advocate with NC's elected officials.

Due to a funding shortfall, Medicaid rate cuts threaten the care our families and communities rely on. Advocates shared their stories with NC House and Senate members. These stories were impactful and we encourage you to share your story!

Special thanks to Representatives White, Crawford, Hawkins, Buansi, Reeder, and Ager for their leadership and advocacy on behalf of NC's patient community!

Last week, Voices Together attended the Benchmarks NC Destination 2025 Conference in Cherokee!

We're so grateful to have heard from so many experts and care providers in the integrated behavioral health, I/DD, and mental health communities from across the state.

At Voices Together, we're continuously committed to providing critical research-based, curriculum-informed Voices Music Therapy™ to help individuals build life skills, agency, and fulfillment in every area of their lives.

Getting to hear from speakers like Casey Cooper on integrated tribal health models for trauma and NC Reps. Grant Campbell, Allen Chesser, Donnie Loftis, and Dr. Timothy Reeder on ways to keep human services accessible for underserved populations was an inspiring reminder of how far we’ve come, and how much farther we have to go in fostering a truly inclusive future for specialized care solutions.

Creating these kinds of pathways for socioemotional learning, multimodal communication, and intersectional community outreach is exactly what we aim to keep doing as our services expand throughout 2026!

Many thanks to Benchmarks' President & CEO Karen McLeod for putting on such an impactful experience. We can’t wait to return next year! 🗓

What Does Personal Power Mean?

Throughout the past two decades working with individuals across the autism spectrum, we at Voices Together have had the privilege of witnessing some incredible moments, but none more profound than when someone has the chance to discover their personal power.

Personal power isn't about control over others, but mastery over oneself. It's that "I can do this" feeling that emerges uniquely for each person.

At Voices Together, we've discovered music to be the universal catalyst in this journey. Our Voices Music Therapy (VMT™) model creates spaces where communication flows naturally and self-expression thrives.

Music motivates us in powerful ways — it opens the mind to learning and growth. Once these pathways are open to new experiences we weave in skill-based content, discussion, role play, social/emotional and language support.

Results we see from this journey:

- Self-regulation: managing emotional responses
- Goal-setting: working toward personal objectives
- Self-direction: making choices and self-advocating
- Building transferable skills: supporting independence across environments

Perhaps most revolutionary is our assumption of competence. Too often, neurodivergent individuals are defined by limitations. At Voices Together, we begin with the belief that each person has boundless capacity for growth and self-determination.

The impact extends beyond individuals to transform families, schools, and workplaces. Our vision: a world where everyone is seen, validated, and empowered to live self-fulfilled lives.

Personal power isn't given—it's unlocked from within. What does personal power mean to you?

Last week, Voices Together had the opportunity to present a panel at the NC Providers Council 2025 Conference in Asheville alongside Rep. Sarah Crawford and Joleane Ferris of Raleigh's Tammy Lynn Center!

In these pivotal moments, getting to share our organization's insights and research on ways to support I/DD populations, therapeutic solutions, and workforce opportunities is crucial.

We were honored to share more about how Voices Music Therapy™ can help to uplift these objectives for individuals and organizations across North Carolina.
