This past week, we were honored to serve as a sponsor of the NC HOSA State Leadership Conference, an inspiring gathering of students who are already taking meaningful steps toward careers in health and service to others. Throughout the conference, we had the privilege of connecting with young people who are not only academically driven, but deeply motivated by a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

At Carol Woods, cultivating pathways into health careers is part of our broader commitment to community and purpose. We believe in creating spaces where learning, mentorship, and real human connection come together, because healthcare is not just a profession, it is a relationship.

We are grateful to have been part of this experience and to support students as they continue to discover where their paths may lead!

On Friday, our community celebrated a remarkable milestone, the retirement of Veronica Watts, our beloved Housekeeping Co-Manager, after 34 years of dedicated service!
For more than three decades, Veronica did far more than keep our spaces clean and welcoming. She helped create a place that feels like home. Her quiet leadership, tireless work ethic, and genuine care for every resident, coworker, and guest left an imprint on this community that cannot be measured in years alone!
Veronica has been part of countless moments here, early mornings preparing the day, long afternoons ensuring every detail was just right, and the small everyday acts of kindness that made people feel seen and cared for. Through it all, she carried herself with grace, humility, and a deep commitment to the people around her.
Veronica leaves a legacy of service, relationships, and memories that will live on in the halls she helped care for and in the hearts of those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Thank you, Veronica, for your dedication, your leadership, and your unwavering spirit. You have helped shape this community in ways that will last far beyond today.
As you step into this new chapter, may it be filled with rest, joy, and all the moments you now have time to enjoy. You will always be part of this family.
Congratulations on your well-earned retirement. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’

One of the things that makes Carol Woods feel like home is our pet-friendly campus ๐Ÿพ
Animals have a way of softening our days, sparking conversation, and creating moments of genuine connection. Whether itโ€™s a resident pausing for a friendly greeting or a staff member finding a moment of calm during a busy day, pets bring comfort, joy, and a sense of togetherness to our community.

Being a pet-friendly campus means more than welcoming animals, it means nurturing well-being for everyone who lives and works here. The presence of pets reminds us to slow down, smile, and care for one another in simple, meaningful ways. ๐Ÿ’™

Architecture matters in aging services because the spaces we create influence dignity, safety, and quality of life.

Grateful to our Platinum Member, SFCS Architects for hosting last week's By Design Conference 2026 in Roanoke, VA, and to the many members who showed up ready to learn.

Gathered in the photo are all LeadingAge North Carolina members in attendance. From left to right starting in the back row from The Pines at Davidson are Nikhil Babu, Vernon Baker, and David Gentry. They are followed by Tommy Best, Tracy Biesecker, Davis Purdy, and Shelby Werner Rhew with Carol Woods Retirement Community, then Lee Syria with EveryAge, Reed VanderSlik with ThriveMore, Greg Hensley with Acts Retirement-Life Communities, Jennifer Reich Bartscht with ThriveMore, and Nate Futrell with Trinity Landing - A Senior Living Community. On the front row left to right is Tom Akins with LeadingAge NC, Ann Pressly with Trinity Landing, Brent Campbell with Arbor Acres, and Emily Jimerson and Curtis Jennings, both managing principals with SFCS.

Every now and then you get to meet your heroes. Yesterday in Chapel Hill, our Executive Director had that honor.

Eleanor Kinnaird, age 94, served in the North Carolina General Assembly for 16 years. She proudly represented the people of Orange and Chatham counties from 1997 to 2013.

Throughout his incarceration, Brian wrote several members of the General Assembly to bring to their attention matters inside the prison system that he believed needed their oversight. Only one ever wrote him back. Yesterday he got to meet her at the Peace and Justice Forum at Carol Woods Retirement Community, where he spoke about his personal journey and OurJourney.

"I still have her letters," Brian said. "I wasn't one of Ellie's constituents, couldn't vote, and was locked up, yet she took the time to respond thoughtfully, affirming my humanity in the process."

๐ŸŽ‰ Exciting News! Our New Website Is Live! ๐ŸŽ‰

After 14 years, we are thrilled to unveil the brand-new Carol Woods website; a reflection of who we are today and where weโ€™re headed as a community.

This redesign has been months in the making, inspired by the same values that have guided Carol Woods for decades: connection, purpose, and the celebration of aging. Our new site tells the story of our community through the voices of residents, the dedication of our staff, and the spirit of life that fills our campus every day.

With a fresh design, updated photography, and easier navigation, we hope this new site captures the warmth and vitality that make Carol Woods so special. Whether youโ€™re exploring living options, learning about our programs, or simply curious about what makes our community unique, we invite you to visit and see whatโ€™s new.
