In the middle of a crisis, being heard can be one of the most powerful forms of support.

At Freedom House, the mobile crisis team plays an important role in helping individuals navigate moments of instability. Many of our team members bring lived experience with recovery and understand firsthand the challenges people face.

Their presence reminds clients that they are not alone, and healing is possible.

Sometimes the path forward begins with someone simply saying, “I understand.”

Not every mental health or substance use crisis requires an emergency room.

Freedom House provides specialized mobile crisis services designed specifically for behavioral health emergencies. Our teams focus on stabilization, support, and connecting individuals with the care they need next.

This approach helps people receive compassionate treatment in a setting built for recovery, while reducing unnecessary hospital visits and involvement with the legal system.

Everyone deserves the right kind of help when they need it most.

Sometimes a crisis builds slowly. Other times it arrives all at once.

Freedom House’s Mobile Crisis team is trained to step into these moments and help stabilize the situation before it escalates further. Our clinicians meet individuals where they are — at home, in the community, or wherever support is needed.

Through calm conversation, assessment, and compassionate care, our team works to reduce immediate risk and help people regain a sense of safety and control.

When a situation feels like it’s getting out of hand, reaching out early can make all the difference.

When a crisis can’t wait, neither do we.

Freedom House’s 16-bed Facility-Based Crisis Unit in Chapel Hill is open 24/7/365 to serve adults experiencing acute substance use or mental health emergencies. For many, we are the first step toward stability. We offer a safe, supportive alternative to the emergency room or incarceration where you can pause to recover.

Here, clients receive immediate care to stabilize, detox if needed, adjust medications, and begin planning for continued recovery. Each stay includes a comprehensive crisis assessment, nursing and psychiatric evaluation, medication and vital sign monitoring, peer support, and connection to long-term outpatient services.

📍 We are located at: 110 New Stateside Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
