Happy St. Patrick's Day from all of us at Pilates at Studio 8
Did you know these spine health facts?
1. Did you know your spine is actually designed to move, not stay still? Many of the aches and stiffness we feel come from lack of movement rather than too much of it. That’s why even gentle, controlled movement can make such a difference.
2. Did you know that your spinal discs don’t have their own blood supply? They rely on movement to stay healthy and hydrated. This means every time you come to class and move your spine through different ranges, you are literally helping to nourish and protect it.
3. Did you know that you can lose up to 1–2 cm in height throughout the day due to compression in your spine? Many people say they feel taller and lighter after class — and there’s a real reason for that!
4. Your core plays a huge role in supporting your spine too. The deep abdominal muscles act like a natural corset, taking pressure off your back and helping you move safely and efficiently.
5. Posture is another big one. Poor posture, especially from sitting or looking down at devices, can put a surprising amount of strain on the neck and back. Small adjustments can make a big difference over time.
6. Movement is one of the best things you can do for bone health. As we get older, maintaining strength and balance becomes even more important, and Pilates is a safe, effective way to support both.
All of these are reasons why what you’re doing in class matters so much — not just now, but for your long-term health and independence.
If you ever have questions about your spine, posture, or anything we do in class, please don’t hesitate to ask. We're always happy to help.
Looking forward to seeing you in the studio soon!
