🌟 Happy National Latino Physician Day to some of our favorite Physicians! 🌟

On October 1st, we join the nation in honoring the incredible contributions of Latino/a physicians — and we’re proud to say that here at UNC Hematology/Oncology, Latino representation isn’t just a talking point, it’s part of who we are.

This year, we celebrate Dr. Murray, Dr. Corria, Dr. Peña, Dr. Boyle, and Dr. Martínez — outstanding Latino Hematology/Oncology physicians whose dedication to patient care, research, mentorship, and community impact strengthens our program every single day.

While Latinos represent nearly 20% of the U.S. population, they make up fewer than 6% of physicians nationwide. At UNC, we are proud to be building something different. The presence of so many talented Latino/a hematologists and oncologists in our program creates a unique and inspiring environment for trainees, colleagues, and patients alike.

To our Latino Heme Onc family: ¡Felicidades y gracias por inspirarnos!

Our fellows and faculty came together for a day of connection, reflection, and inspiration. Highlights included team-building, shared learning, and a special keynote from Anson Dorrance.

Moments like these remind us of the strength of our community both inside and outside the clinic. 🩵🐏

✨ Highlights from the 2025 Carolinas Cancer Conference ✨

Our UNC Hematology/Oncology fellows and faculty had an amazing weekend sharing research, connecting with colleagues, and showcasing the strength of our program.

🩵 We are especially proud of Dr. Dailis Corria Cedeño & Dr. Abner Murray for receiving the Best Poster Presentation Award for their important work on the NC Hispanic Cancer Registry.

It’s an honor to see our team representing and pushing the future of cancer care forward. 🐏
