Please join us in welcoming Margaret Campbell, FNP to the Chatham Pediatrics family!

As Chatham Pediatrics continues to grow, our goal is to add experienced, compassionate providers who help us create a strong medical home for every child we serve. Margaret brings dedication, warmth, and a commitment to high-quality pediatric care that supports both children and their families.

Margaret Campbell grew up in Charlotte. She completed her nursing degree at the University of Pittsburgh, studied Spanish in Guatemala, and then returned to NC to complete her graduate degree at UNC. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Margaret is a nurse who has received additional education, certification, and licensure, enabling her to diagnose and treat medical conditions and be a primary care provider. Before joining Chatham Pediatrics, she worked at a local public health department and community health centers. Her clinical areas of interest include breast/chest feeding, LGBTQ health, and sexual/reproductive health.

Margaret enjoys working collaboratively with patients and their families to build relationships focused on promoting health and well-being. She provides medical services in both English and Spanish, and she loves working with patients with diverse backgrounds.

Margaret and her husband have one child and one dog. Outside of work, Margaret enjoys spending time with her family and friends, baking with her young daughter, hiking, and reading.

Honoring the Legacy of the Original Chatham Pediatrics.

As we strive to provide a medical home for the children of Chatham County, we are inspired by the example set by Dr. James Schwankl.

Dr. Schwankl graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1969 and completed his pediatric residency at the Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. While earning his Masters of Public Health at UNC, he worked in community health centers in the rural towns of Prospect Hill and Moncure. During this time, Chatham Hospital asked Dr. Schwankl to give a presentation titled “How to recruit physicians in outlying communities.” The presentation must have been persuasive because Dr. Schwankl ended up recruiting himself to open an independent pediatric practice in Chatham County!

Dr. Schwankl established the original Chatham Pediatrics in Siler City in 1976 - when an office visit was just $8.00! He was known for his compassionate care and his commitment to serve families from all backgrounds. Dr. Schwankl served the Chatham County community for 41 years until his retirement in 2017.

We are humbled and grateful for the support that Dr. Schwankl and his wife, Anne Marie, have given us along our journey to open the new Chatham Pediatrics in 2024. We aspire to continue their mission of high quality pediatric care and community service.

It is almost Valentine's Day!

Don't let the fear of measles get you down! We are seeing cases in Orange, Durham and Wake County. In some cases, children age 6 to 12 months can receive an early dose of the MMR vaccine. Give us a call if you have questions regarding your child's vaccine status or eligibility.

In related news, current guidelines indicate that some children may qualify for an early first dose of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine or an early second dose of the MMR vaccine. Please call our office if you have any questions or concerns.
